DuHamel Hits 196 mph @ Brainerd
turn one wonder

Brainerd is built around a quarter mile drag strip, so top speed is at a premium. From the apex of turn ten to the apex of the banked turn one is 5200 feet, according to track lore. That makes for an epic run on the throttle. Radar gun trap speeds are interesting viewing at BIR, especially comparing top speeds to lap times as the weekend goes on.

Miguel DuHamel's Honda CBR1000RR is said by multiple sources to have topped out at 196 miles per hour in the first session. The logical question ... can a Superbike hit 200 mph at Brainerd?

Rad Greaves tried to hit the "double ton" on his Formula Xtreme Hayabusa a couple of times but never managed it. Lap times should continue to fall as the weekend goes on, and top speeds will rise as well. With a sticky Q tire, the mark might fall.

brainerd is fucking awesome. the hype about the straight and turn one is very true. i went a couple of years ago and the speeds they were carrying into turn 1 was absolutely mind blowing

DuHamel A Few Ounces Short Of The Double-Ton

Knowledgeable sources told SuperBikePlanet today that the data acquisition on Miguel DuHamel's CBR1000RR Superbike indicated that the big red machine topped out at 198 mph in Brainerd's Superbike race last Sunday.

198.96, to be exact, just a slightly over one mph off the magic 200mph mark.

For reference, in 1999 the fastest Superbikes at BIR—the Ducati's of Ben Bostrom, Anthony Gobert, Larry Pegram, and Eric Bostrom's Honda—all topped out at just 184mph.
