Question for those who change there own tires, how often do you change the valve stem, every time, every other time, how often and where do you buy them at.

thanks

I change alot of tires... I only replace them when they look the least bit questionable. Press them to the side in all directions and take notice of the seating areas. any cracks... replace immediately.

Any tire shop will have them but I replace mine every time just because they are there and free.... My friends at Discount Tire let me use their machines to do my tires......

2K,
Lets just say... you are a very lucky guy! Yes, If you can get the valve stems for free, just toss a new one in there to eliminate the possibility of catastrophic failure.
Where I'm from, they even charge you for air! (No lie!) Just ask Stuna!

Well I have always said its not what you know its who you know. I have about ten difernt shops that will do repairs, mounts, ballance and valves at no charge..... This also comes with a downside though, my boy slipped with the bead breaker and scratched my rim and I didnt feel that I could ay shit since I wasnt a paying customer.... Plus that same guy gets me whatever I want at 10% over....

That really sux. If I damaged someones rim, regardless of if they were a paying customer, I would feel like shit. Do you have black wheels? Try some magic marker. ( I apologize, in advance, for the magic marker reference. I'm not claiming to have been the inventor of the cover up technique, just passing some well known info.) He he he he

I had the same problem 2K2. The guy scratched up my rim lips. Touch up doesn't cut it. I taped off the lips, used some paint stripper and removed the paint. It came out good. I used some polish after. No more scratches.

I've had many tires changed in the last 38 years of riding by different shops and all of them have left there little tell-tail marks some worse than others, I change my own now and I will be the first to say it is very hard to change the new light weight wheels without leaving a mark on them.
