Friday night went out to dinner with the wife ,got home and really didnt feel like doing anything but just chillin and watching some TV..at 12:30 am I get a call from my boy out on L.I.(Lyod 2003 Gixxer 1000)he starts ranting about some dude with a zx10 talking shit and calling it a gixxer kill so they start going back and forth and the dude leave,so Lyod tells me the dude is coming back at 1:30 to run him ,so I tell my wife im goin out for a little while I jump on my bike and head out to L.I. Deerpark ace about 40 mile ride,I get there and I see Lyod sittin in the parking lot solo waitting for the dude with the zx10 so I pull in and we waited together..after 2am we see him and his crew ride by and they never came back,so we waited and waited and finally got him on his buddies nextel,he started bitching out so I told lyod to ask where they are and we will go to them..after 1/2 hour of this guying bitching out he finally gave him..I told Lyod I was going to stay in the back and witness the whole this so this guy cant go around and talk bullshit..anyway Lyod got this guy on the highway(a few cars out)and opened up a can of whoop ass!!
then Lyod slowed down at a section of road and waited for us,it opened up for a few mile straight and the zx10 did walk on him but its far from Gixxer killer..so me and the zx10 started going at it,he had a nice lead only because I was hanging back as a witness to the ass whooping he got,anyway he opened it up and so did I,the bike is fast!!! but it doesnt have all the hype that the Mags where writing about it..we held it open and I started to inch up on him..my speedo read 185 and it was hittin 6th gear limiter and I was crawling up on him..so there you have it..the zx10 and the 1000rr are both faster then the gixxer 1000 and the zx10 and the 1000rr have just about the same top speed..the dude on the zx10 had some balls and some skills,he held it open for a long time,he even hit a few sweepers are a desent speed..now we need a R1 :D

Great story. Like Quik said maybe if both of you started from equal starts, then maybe you would have won. But I must say I "believed" the "hype" on the ZX-10R plus stories from close friends here. But since your story sounds sincere I'm starting to wonder about the ZX-10R.

Quik it was just a top speed..not 1/4 or 1/2,it was just all HP..
he had some skill but everytime a sweeper would come up it would have a few cars so of course im going to let off and he did the same..I fast but im not that stupid..
but I was inching on him..from what I seen both bike are about equal in the top speed area..if I ever get that fuckin sprocket I ordered from the local shop in my area then I know for sure I would of passed him.,but then again if he does the same we will still be equal :wink: I it was a full all out run with no cars,I would of smoked his ass no question about it.

COOL story. Good to hear the guy on the ZX-10 had some skills so it was a decent comparison. The Zx-10 I've seen around here is mighty fast. But I've never seen him ride on anything other than straight. I knew the 1000RR would be right there. The mags always talk down on the Hondas. But, it's prolly what they are getting paid for, if you know what I mean.

Oh I know when you get to a certain speed the speedo is off by 5-10mph. I just wanted to know what you think your speedo will read when you get the sproket. Example it might read 190 or 195mph when you change the sprocket. Now we know you won't actually be doing it, but it would be nice to see on the speedo right :D

Its probably going to be more accurate and read about 179-182mph..the speed is off and dropping the tooth will put it close to its accurate speed..if you go up a tooth your not going to go faster top speed but the speedo will read higher..funny how it works..

I didn't post that link, and I am certainly not upset. It only caught my attention because everyone was nasty, it's nice for stunna reply with out name calling. I never felt like you were bashing the "other bike" on the original post. True 10r.net has some of the same silly opinions in the other direction and I don't pay attention. I will ride a CBR1000 soon and can assure you the 10 pulls the gixxer and R1 cleanly under acceleration but it's mostly felt at the track at the top end. The gixxer and even my old 929 have more tractable bottom end for STREET riding. The way the mags reported those other brands is pretty much how they felt when riding. All the comparison riding was done AT THE TRACK. For street riding, I would still take my old 929. See my brand loyalties lie no where.

Stunna as an owner of an '03 gixxer 1k and a 10r, the 10 is easily stronger but only over 9k rpm, the gixxer had my 10 by 8 hp on the dyno all the way to 10k (I ran them back-to-back). It was less noticable on the R1 and I would reckon the cbr1000 is similar. If it's like any typical honda it is more well rounded. The 10 was just cleanly stronger at the top. It didn't mean I was any faster with the lap times (I race the clock not on the street)

Any half smart guy knows you can't compare one bike to another, from different dynos. But yes, I still dyno my bikes because I do it free on my friends dyno. It's a factory dyno so it reads low anyway, but when I install a PC III and some velocity stacks, I'll run it on HIS dyno again. I won't worship those numbers or throw 'em out there to make myself look better. You wouldn't dyno your bike if it was free?
The same question goes to friction954 and stunna, you would just walk away from a dyno that was at your disposal?

You keep saying "I don't have any idea" but I probably do. Even if your bike makes 10 less horsepower, you may have more top speed than me because I am big and can't get my elbow and knees behind the screen, thereby losing top speed at 160+.

You side with stunna on "it's all the rider" I live by that creed! That's why all my bikes have stock exhausts and no bling crap on them, just a shock and some suspension. An old fast geezer on a honda transalp once told me 'on a 40 hp road, you only need 40 hp' try and race some fast guy on a slow bike on tighter-than-fuck roads and you wish you were on a 650 single.

I agree with you whole heartedly. He is from a place that really dont have the twisties and it was my back yard. But he was doing some bragging about being a track junkie and one things for sure if he was a true track rider then I wouldnt of walked on him since I was leading and he couldnt of overshot a curve unless I did. Do you agree with that?
Now I will say there was one kid on a R1 that stayed with me. But the rest of the boys and there were about 5 or 6 of them, we didnt see them until we stopped and waited around 20 seconds or so. :wink:

Creek Road is an awesome lil road near my house in Dillsburg Pa. It starts with some nice turns that drop and rise at various points in the turns, then you come up a small hill over railroad tracks, immediately after is a 90 right, an S hairpin, then you drop down to the left right beside a creek. Then 2 S hairpins, and if you screw up, you are in the creek ANYWHERE on the road. HAHAHA it's about the best road around here...

stunna: you should organize some of your peeps who have all the bling new big bikes (hopefully a ZX10 too) and try a dyno shoot out. If anyone's bike has more power, just show 'em how it's done with your riding. You know a couple ponies won't make a diff.
I post very respectible lap times for a stock undersprung street bike, but my buddy is 1 second quicker.....on his TZ250! So if that ain't an example of 'it's all in the riding' nothing is.

and we all know what HP these bikes are pushing out we see them posted on every board and mag,so theres no need waste are time and the shops time..
unless I do some work to my bike then yeah I would like to see if it made a difference..

my dyno post was only to show exactly what you said. these bikes are closer than the mags say. its all rider when it comes to these bikes. the only reason i put my bike on a dyno is to help with before and after mods.

Stuna, SP8 is from New Haven. Easy trip across the Port Jeff ferry if you wanted to get there but our high ways suck for runnin. Takes me 20 min to get to the Bronks by bike and he is probably 25 to 30 min more by bike. These times are based on the assumption that he likes to ride on the quick side. If you took the ferry over to meet him, you could always run the Merrit Parkway (turns into the Hutch on the N.Y side). Great elevation changes and tons of turns with some fast sweepers. Only problem is it is not lit at night so you really have to know it well to run hard after dark. Pavement is great though. You can crash at my place when your finished.

You can do a nice top speed run right where SP8 is from. Check a map and see where I-95 and I-91 meet up. Its in New Haven. I-91 is pretty straight with good pavement and 3 and 4 lanes at times. When we head north we can make up for lost time at the beginning of I-91. Sounds like the perfect place to run someone now that I think about it.

i got a funny one.............

finally got some miles in this weekend and when i clicked over 200 miles i couldn't stand it anymore. everybody took off and i got held up by a car and 2 600's. up front was 2 02 R1's, a 04 gixxer 600, and a zx10(he was up front) i blew by everybody else like they were standing still....that was a real eye opener....180 (registered) in no time. i caught up to or passed everybody on a long straight, but when they came up to a 60mph sweeper some let off, but the 10 tried to stay in it. by this time i'm right on his ass. i see him start to get on it and i roll on it. i start pulling him like nothing and put about 6 or 7 bike lengths between us before i let off....new bike and all :D

we get to our stop and i'm drinking my Dew and he walks up to me and says "man i was just getting in to it when you passed me, otherwise it wouldn't have happened". i told him we could easily turn around and head back the other way, but he said "no that's ok.....i gotta get somewhere".............LMFAO. everybody that was there that knows me just laughed. one guy said "jimmy woulda done that on his 954.....don't make yourself look stupid" i like this guy and he's cool and all, but that just made me laugh :P

whether or not i coulda done it on the 5er isn't the point. this bike is no freakin joke and my 54 couldn't hold a candle to it with the top end, handling, or flat out acceleration, even with all the mods. i'm very happy 8)

he was most likey scared a lil bit not to hold it,because the 1000rr is not going to just blow by a zx10..on a nother note..I got my Afam sprocket and my brake lines and pads..just to damn busy gettin my house done for this baby on the way to install..

you are absolutly right. but I am a racer at heart and I would rather do it in a controlled area than on some interstate before I go nuts.

I dropped one tooth on the front and hit the shift light in sixth at 186, backed off to 185 and hit again-shift light again at 186. I was chasing a zx-10 and modded gsxr1000. With stock gearing I might have closed in on them, but they were definitely not pulling away. Guy on the ZX said he saw 189 and was still pulling. These bikes truly are too close to call.
