: buzz or rattling noise 02 954
spikedog 07-27-2004, 09:22 PM hey, i have a 02 954 and about 100 miles ago i started to hear a buzzing or rattling noise at 3,500 to 4,000 rpms only, any higher or lower it goes away. it has not affected the performance any. only mod is erion slip on. bike has 4,900 miles on it, the noise almost sounds like a loose exhaust heat shield on a car. any input would be great, thanks
Wheelie 07-27-2004, 09:49 PM exhaust valve(set valve)? weeeee
gntbldr 07-28-2004, 12:07 AM exhaust valve(set valve)? weeeee
possibly see if your cables to your exhaust valve need to be adjusted.
GeNeRaL 07-28-2004, 12:11 AM i noticed my front faring rattles at a certain rpm. try grabbing it when you hear the noise, see if that stops it.
cbrjimmy1KRR 07-28-2004, 06:34 AM i had a bad rattle coming from the wind screen when i first got my 54. sounded more like a loud rub, but very annoying
Friction954 07-28-2004, 03:06 PM Same here... mine only did it between 3500-4000 rpm
spikedog 07-28-2004, 08:49 PM hey friction, did you ever find out what the noise was on your 954? was it the exhaust valve? or did you just ignore the noise? thanks for your input. remember, keep the rubber side down! :D
Butter Bean 07-28-2004, 08:51 PM If you have aftermarket turn signals check to see if the bundle of wires is loose and bouncing around inside the bodywork. When I changed my signals I tie wrapped the wires together and stuffed then into an open space above the turn signal.
Shit drove me crazy for about a week.
thejuice954rr 07-29-2004, 12:01 AM How do you adjust the exhust vavles? My stealership doesn't do shit for me and it is the only Honda dealership in the city. The only thing thye can get right is cosmetic shit.
It sucks becuase they keep my bike for weeks and it gets returned to me still running like shit.
Friction954 07-29-2004, 12:36 AM Spike,
Yeah i did... i turned out to be the windscreen, i took it off and put some loctite type shit on it and put it back on and it didn't make the sound anymore.
I traded my bike today so good luck if the person who gets it tries to get the screen off
cbrjimmy1KRR 07-29-2004, 06:10 AM friction.....you got rid of your bike?? did you get something else yet...or soon??
spikedog 08-05-2004, 05:45 PM hey fellas, after removing both of the front farings on my bike trying to trace the noise, I could not find it, I just ran over to the honda dealer and had a tech listen to it, sure enough it is the htev valve. I set up a appointment to get it fixed, will let you know what haqppens. 8)
Wheelie 08-05-2004, 05:57 PM TOLD YA!!! weeeeee
gntbldr 08-05-2004, 07:45 PM TOLD YA!!! weeeeee
hehehehe
Wheelie 08-05-2004, 08:11 PM well, it was a good guess. weee
Handsome Tas RR 08-21-2004, 09:57 PM And I actually (finally) traced it to the bolts that hold the front fairing over the front wheel. Try tightening them up a little and maybe apply some locktite on the threads. I was actually in too much of a hurry and i used rubber cement (its what was available at the time) maybe u should also buy some rubber washers. Used to have it buzz between 3500-4000 rpm. It's gone now...thank God.....it was so annoying!! Hope it helps!
Peace
Taso
Niner54 08-21-2004, 10:30 PM Hand the SAME damn thing, but mine was coming from the headlight assembly.
Glad it's gone!
spikedog 08-23-2004, 05:27 PM hey fellas, just got my bike back from the dealership, turns out it was not the exhaust valve, it was the left faring buzzing, a couple new grommets and it is good to go, they didnt charge me a fucking penny! They are a awesome dealership and they go out of there way to help you out. thanks for all the input. take it easy boys. :headbang:
