Hey guys I have an 02 954 Silv/Blk 12 500 km. Should be fast and run great. It doesn't. It runs rough at idle. It has hash virbrations that increase with speed especially in 6th you can feel it at 150 km and above... it gets more intense as the speed increases. Also, you can definately feel a dull clickity vibration as the rpms wind down in 6th usually at around 6000-7000 rmp. When it is in neutral and I rev it to just under 3000 rpms and hold it thereI get a fluttering sound from the pipe. Somethin is just not right. I took it in to service but we all know that they are shit. They did replace the flapper cable and showed me the old one and how it was seizing. That helped but not much interms of the vibrations. I am still getting shitty vibrations and a lack of power. My boy has the same bike and no problems and he rides his alot harder than I do. My roomate has an 03 and no problems and he rides all harder than I do. We have all traded bikes and agreed that there is something not right.

To make matters worse my clutch pivot bolt seized on me. . And my shift from 1st to 2nd is clickity at times too. What have a done to derseve this... I should have rode this thing hard right from the get go

Any ideas?

Check to see that your HTEV is in good working condition. The RPM ranges you have mentioned seem to coincide wiith the points in the RPM range that the HTEV is operating. Unbolt it from the exhaust system if need be and inspect it for loose or ill fitting parts and full operating motions. Would be great if you could swap in an HTEV from one of your friends bikes to see if this is the culprit. I'm sure others will have some ideas for you also. Good luck and let us know what the problem turns out to be.

By-Tor beat me to the rhetorical "gnt" rply to those symptoms ... but! hahah

YUP.

have you tried replacing your spark plugs?

if it was my bike I'd do that 1st, along with a shit load of fuel injector cleaner, and then I'd have one of your buddys run it hard for a bit to see if it clears up.

if it doesn't clear up at least a little with all that I'd be thinking all the worst.... rings, or cams.

keep us up to date bro, and all the best!

I agree, try spark plugs and other small stuff before you sink money into bigger stuff like a new HTEV or whatnot

spark plugs was my very first thought  did you get it used? otherwise, it would have to be something real wrong......these engines are bullet proof :D

the clunky shifting from 1st to 2nd is normal i think. mine did it and so do alot of others around here. you could also check your air filter....could be something choking it down

My first thought was to check the HTEV, the second thing that came to mind was to check throttle body syncronization. Third, inspect the air control valve. Most likely something simple. as far as the flapper cable goes, do the flapper mods and get that sucker out of there. If all of that fails... do a compression check to look for something mechanical.
Has this bike ever run well? or has it been this way from day one? If it's always been this way, check for vacuum leaks ( Hoses missing on their connections)
Hope this helps!

sounds like plugs or your flapper valve in the air box is not opening. good luck and let us know.

Oh crap now wheelie has someone to play with :D Were no longer the 1000rr board, we are now the who the hell ever board

These guys have given a lot of good advise on solving the problems, let me add one more. Put full synthetic oil in it and it should calm down the cluncky tranny. It did mine, I went from regular oil to synth blend to full and the more I went to synthetic the better the tranny worked. I also got a little more HP. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it. When I did take it in for servicing the orginal time, I told them I thought it might be the HTEV and the main mechanic said that some bushings had to be replaced on a recall. They never did tell me if they did that repair. They just said that they replaced the flapper cable.

And yes the bike ran awesome last season and it was bought brand new.

What brands of full synthetic oil do you guys use?

I will keep you updated with what happens.

I have never heard of any other recall except the head bearings, unless I just missed it. Anything we say online is a shot in the dark but try some techron through the gas. I try to use chevron gas when I can. I'm a believer in that shit.New plugs if it has been awhile, synthetic oil and keep going down the small list till you get to the larger and more expensive stuff which has already been said .
