: Dropped a tooth.
matt954 08-07-2004, 06:10 PM I recently brought my 954 in for the 12,000 mile checkup, while i was there i had a new chain and sprockets put on. so i figured while i was there replacing the sprockets why not drop a tooth in the front. What an awesome change. I have a full two bros. exhaust and that added some nice power but the sprocket change is great. the bike hauls ass! and didn't kill top end too much i still got it to an indicated 174. before redline. the best money you'll spend.
By-Tor 08-07-2004, 11:53 PM Good info Matt :)
gntbldr 08-09-2004, 12:18 PM I heard it powers up the wheelies in 3rd gear with that gear change... you notice it doing that?
Truck 08-09-2004, 12:30 PM A good way to keep up with a gixxie on a 54 in a straight line too ive heard.
Anonymous 08-11-2004, 08:41 PM I just ordered new sprockets and a chain, I'm going down one in the front and up one in the rear. I'll post some comparison info when I get them and put em on.

gntbldr 08-17-2004, 03:27 PM yw, what was going on here was talk of sprockets and what the outcomes are like when you change the sprocket at the motor from a 16 tooth to a 15 tooth.

Niner54 08-17-2004, 05:46 PM The 1k seems way more stable than the 54 and would probably be REAL nice dropping a tooth :? hmm....
I think I am the only FL guy here, there used to be a couple on the 954 site, but aint seen them in a while...

olderRR. 08-18-2004, 01:40 AM I went up two in the back. Not as big a change as 1 down in front and 1up in back. I like it.
Hey queenie! If you need a break from the mess in Florida, come visit me in the mountains. You'd love the ridin here!
:D
snigg 08-21-2004, 12:01 PM you can power up 3rd gear wheelies with stock gearing. maybe its just cuz im light(150lbs) but ive gotten 3rd gear stand up's up numerous times.
gntbldr 08-21-2004, 12:49 PM snigg, are you loading the front suspension?
snigg 08-21-2004, 02:00 PM snigg, are you loading the front suspension?
yes, bouncing it. it seems that i can only get it up and ride it when im sorta low on gas. as wierd as that sounds, it does make a difference. although im sure with more practice bouncing it i could get it up with a full tank.
hell 3rd gear is easier to contol,
I think im 200 lbs and have no problem with stock gears 6 grand in 3rd blip and twist!!!!
Anonymous 08-21-2004, 05:18 PM yea I'm doing third gear wheelies too, but I'm going about 75 or 80 and yanking on it. I'm wanting to just roll on it in third and have it come up.

Try it at about 9 grand it seems to work for me :D
fukinnuts 08-21-2004, 08:16 PM I went down 1 up front and up 3 in the rear. I liked it. It made second gear seem like first, although first was still useable. I definately lost some top end but I could still keep up. :P

I can do a wheelie at 9 grand but I have to let off the trottle and then hammer it or jerk on the bars to get it off the ground.
meatstick 09-15-2004, 11:35 PM I want to drop a tooth on the front this winter. I want the 954 to wheelie in 2nd like it does in first. I can pull it up in 2nd but I got to chop the throttle and tug up on the bars pretty good. The speed thing I'm still trying to get use to. It's weird having the front end up around 60mph. It feels like the bike wants to take off. What I want to know is when you drop a tooth does the bike come up easy in 2nd and 3rd gear?

Hey older,I'm dropping a tooth also, but worry about gas mileage, what are you getting? I can't get less then about 110 miles to a tank or I will run out running my favorite roads.
NavyMac 09-16-2004, 12:33 PM I dropped a tooth up front- mileage hurts a little, but you should still break 110 on a tank no prob...
IIFAST4U 09-16-2004, 03:08 PM wow you guys are lightweights LOL :D I'm about 275lbs and going to get my 954 tommoro from out of state. what is the stock gears? 16 up front from what I'm reading here, whats stock rear? 44? 45? I put a 14t front and 50t rear on my gsxr 750 and it really helped the hole shot but killed the top end. stock on that bike was 15 / 45 I think.
Shawn

I get consistent 135 out of a tank with a -1 in front.
