spikedog 08-24-2004, 04:50 PM hey girls and guys, i kind of have this little helmet collection going, I have 4 shoei helmets, the newest one is a duhamel replica. A buddy of mine had a suomy, so i tried it and like it so much that i recently bought a spec1r extreme bostrom replica. this helmet rocks! very light weight, just a tad over 3 pounds, you dont even know its there, looks killer too. what do you guys and girls wear? im in the market for another helmet, any input at what else i should take a look at would be great. :D
cbrjimmy1KRR 08-24-2004, 05:06 PM i saw a helmet made by Shark, but haven't heard much about them. damn son...you need that many helmets?? :P
gntbldr 08-24-2004, 05:19 PM I'm running an Arai Signet GT and am pleased with it. If I could down talk one thing only it'd be how bugs collect in the front air scoops...
other than that it's awesome and has saved my life twice so far.... time to get a new one.
I had a Shoei and it was a great helmet but a lil bit on the heavy side...
what's your favorite or which one do you find yourself wearing the most?
spikedog 08-24-2004, 05:24 PM well, 2 of the shoei helmets i have, i only use for track days or for racing, they have a tear off set up on them. i guess i wear the suomy more because it just feels so much better that the shoei, it also doesnt move around as much at freeway speeds, kind of a bitch to change the face shield though
gntbldr 08-24-2004, 05:27 PM yeah it's a bitch to change the sheild on the Arai too...
I'll have to look into the suomy since the Arai did to me from my Shoei's that your Suomy does fro your Shoei.
Feels more stable, lighter.
Niner54 08-24-2004, 05:35 PM Have the Arai Edwards (red). Light as shit, but yeah the face sheild (quick replacement) SUCKS ASS, I've had the damn side pieces fall off out of the blue (once while riding in Daytona- THAT SUCKED BAD!!!!).
Overall I love the Arai!
I have an RF900 Duhammel Replica and my man an RF 1000 Duhammel Replica, yeah I know, we match how Friggin cute. My only solice is I can get a new one in 2 years, until then, no cash for the fashion, it all goes into my bike. My hubby says I look stupid on a black bike with red gear, so I am sure I may get a new one for X-mas, personally I don't care, as long as I am kept safe.
If you want something super cool, go to the rc51 site listed elsewhere on this board.....

Awe, Yeah!
Custom is always the best! There are plenty of sites though that do helmet closeouts, just make sure you know the manufactured date, you don't want to fork over $500 on a helmet that is set to "expire" in 6 months.
Anonymous 08-24-2004, 06:23 PM I'm wearing an older shoei right now but I'm in the market for a new one. I'm looking at the x-11 and the arai rx7. I haven't really ever looked at the suomy's and tried them on, but I think I will now.
I looking at the x-11
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, X-11, me wanty, me wanty BAAAAAAAAD!
the new RF1000 are much lighter than my 900, but there is not helmet I have put on my gullet yet that is even close to as light and comfy as that X-11, it gets me all hot and bothered I want one so bad.
Anonymous 08-24-2004, 06:47 PM hey, Kat don't make fun of the way I talk " I looking at"
son of a ........
I'm doing a edit right now... :D
spikedog 08-24-2004, 07:22 PM hey kat, those are some bad ass helmets!!! I have tried on the x-11 from shoei, it was nice, but it still does not compare to thr suomy spec 1r extreme. you have got to feel the inside of this helmet, it is the most comfortable helmet i have tried on, a little pricey 650 retail, but i got mine on ebay for 500
vt954 08-24-2004, 08:12 PM I have an Arai rx7-- Haga replica I think.. I like it, but it don't have much else to compare it to. It is light, looks good, vents well - actually almost too much when it is chilly out, and is pretty comfortable. It was big bucks if I remember right , but I got lucky and kneedraggers gave me a killer deal a couple years ago with a big order. We ordered a couple grand worth and I think my helmet was around $400. I can't believe you guys think the shields are a pain to change. It is super easy. I have never had a problem. Ok once, but it was my fault. I tried to puton a clear shield from another Arai, but it was a different model , and I broke the side cover off before I realized it wasn't going to fit. Retard... Other than that it's been good.
gntbldr 08-25-2004, 12:52 AM yeah you're right but it's not as easy as unscrewing the Shoei I had.
I liked running smoed sheilds in the day and clear at night but I didn't alwyas feel like messing with the side caps and all... would rather just wear my shades and go ride. 8)
Next season I am definately looking into another high end helmet.
Terry 08-25-2004, 04:00 AM Arai astral works good for me.

GeNeRaL 08-25-2004, 08:53 AM Shark helmets are great. The RSR is where it's at. The quality is amazing, the protection is excellent. they are slightly noise because they were primarily designed as an all out race lid. A friend of mine got the barros replica and it was a hit. no one around here has them because until last season they weren't available in the US, only europe. It's one of the best selling Helmets out there.
Arai is also a good score, try them on though because the different lines of lids are different shapes (quantum, signet, astral). they make some of the nicest lids as well and the rx7 race replica 's are HOT!
hey, Kat don't make fun of the way I talk " I looking at"
I wasn't making fun of you, I didn't even catch that. Have you checked out my posts? The spelcehek button is just too much work, look at that, I even misspelled my misspell. I would never make fun unless totally warranted, then I would point it out IN BIG LETTERS!
And laugh, HAHAHAHAHA!
not compare to thr suomy spec 1r extreme
have not had teh pleasure of finding a Suomy to put my head into, and not wanting to fork over a Bassani for my truck (6-700 bones) to find out, I can't say I can compare. Remember, when you buy off e-bay, check the born on date, would suck to fork over the cash for a helmet you have to replace in a few months.
GeNeRaL 08-25-2004, 10:47 AM along with the born on date thing, remember that many people buy blemished lids from dealers and sell them cheaper. you get what you pay for :)
Anonymous 08-25-2004, 12:19 PM Kat, I was just playing.. :P
Flightmedic954 08-25-2004, 01:50 PM yea you get what you pay for is right,
I got Icon's rubatone, it felt good @ the dealer & I liked the flat black look, on line it was only like $180.

Does you guys expensive ass helments touch @ high speeds?
High speeds, 55 stay alive baby!
Yes, I kiss my helmet at high speeds, and mine is the perfect size. When I hit about 90 sometimes, but always over 100 it feels like the wind is going to rip it off my head if I am not under the sceen just right. Thought is was just me
Sometimes I kiss my helmet at slower speeds too, must have a big mouth
spikedog 08-25-2004, 03:42 PM no, i do not kiss my suomy at higher speeds, the the thing is fucking rock stable. and before i bid on the helmet on ebay, i emailed the seller for the born on date, i trusted him because he has sold several hundred helmets, when i got it it was what he said it was.i would be interested in the shark helmet, anybody know where to find them or get any info about?
gntbldr 08-25-2004, 03:53 PM My Shoei used to mush my face but my Arai doesn't.
just back back from the dealer pickin up exhasut, decided to try on some helmets cause of this post, still had no Suomy's, but man that Arai made me wish I had 600 bones to blow, man was it comfy, purdy too!
olderRR. 08-26-2004, 02:19 PM Shoei RF1000 is a good lid. Light, good ventilation, and it works. It saved my mates life. I'm getting her another one!
My Shoei used to mush my face but my Arai doesn't.
I was wearing my wife's HJC last year on my Gixxer 1000. I went into a 150mph sweeper and the visor popped open. All the air flew into my eyes and I damn near straightened my bike up.
Almost bit it that day. :floating:
Now, I rock a RF1000. I like it better than the X-Eleven and that bullshit Arai. Although, I have to give Arai credit, it is comfortable around the ears.
smokinjoes 08-26-2004, 04:32 PM Right now i have a couple of Suomy gunwinds and the fit is great but i'm getting the itch to get an Extreme.Suomy's fit my head really well,i've tried shoei's on but they're no good for me fit wise.
I think Arai, SUomy and Shoei are all in pretty much the same league, adn it all comes down to what fits better. I have always been a Shoei girl, but that Arai felt so nice! Still, I will probably go with what I know, I have a thing for brand loyalty.
So, what I think it boils down to is.... Don't get an HJC, or any other low cost helmet, int eh owrds of a wise man her ein this post... You get what you pay for.
Dunno about Icons, so I ain't gonna knock em, but get what feels best, or, if you are just blowin dough on a pretty accessory to hang on your wall, what looks best! Right?
Truck 08-26-2004, 08:08 PM When I hit about 90 sometimes, but always over 100 it feels like the wind is going to rip it off my head if I am not under the screen just right.
I know what you mean, the first time I raised my big head up at around 150 It almost pulled me off the back :D
I use the RF-900 Picote the black one, I like it but Ive tried the suomy and like it a lot better
spikedog 08-26-2004, 08:58 PM nobody has any info on shark helmets? i want to know where i can get my hands on one. i have tried icon helmets, they are ok, but you get what you pay for, they kind of remind me of hjc helmets. i would like to get a nicky hayden replica arai to add to my collection, i had miguel sign my shoei replica at the brainerd round of the ama, i guess that helmet is now retired. if you go to suomys website, suomyusa.com, you can see the testing they do on the helmets, its pretty cool.
spikedog 08-26-2004, 09:02 PM sorry guys, its www.suomy.com, it is a pretty killer site :ohmygod:
GeNeRaL 08-27-2004, 07:57 AM My Shoei used to mush my face but my Arai doesn't.
I was wearing my wife's HJC last year on my Gixxer 1000. I went into a 150mph sweeper and the visor popped open. All the air flew into my eyes and I damn near straightened my bike up.

LMFAO!!! same shit happened to me but at about 85 in my KBC hunka junka. Now when i go over about 100 thats it, not only does it open, it rips off and goes for a sail in the breeze. Kinda pisses off anyone riding behind me though lol, I call it shield dodging, a new sport!
