: What are some racetracks near NJ?
new_rr_owner 08-26-2004, 11:36 PM I'd love to get to a racetrack to see if I can make a carreer switch from motocross to street bike racing. Being that I just got into this sport I would probably have to ride to the track at first. Any tips on prepping for entry level racetrack time? I just want to lay down some laps to get some practice at first.

first you have to take a class and pass it ,then finish you rookie race with out falliing..but before all that you need a full leather, tires, bike wire tide and a race body..or you can do some trackdays then all you need is a full leather and some tape to cover your glass and some cash on the side to replace all your broken shit after you bust your ass trying to get them lap times.. :D
gntbldr 08-27-2004, 02:30 AM in laymans terms.... :P
it's just not that easy....
I can't say I know the tracks around that area but I can direct you to some nice info...
Check out Nesba (http://www.nesba.com/) for some links and good info.
and while you are there (or here) (http://www.nesba.com/Info/downloads/manual.pdf)you should really check out the riders manual for all the quid pro quos.
edit: I looked around in there and there is and event schedule (http://www.nesba.com/info/trackevents.aspx) with some VA and PA track days going on...

That and dont forget that you have to complete your rookie race on a 600cc or smaller machine, which means you need to find a friend that is willing to loan you his bike so you can race prep it and hope you dont wreck it. Long story short, buy a used 600 that is already race prepped for cheap money and have a crack at it. Keep the 1000 for the street.

Not necessarily. If you hook up with team promotion, they'll let you use your own bike or you can use one of theirs if you give a damage deposit.
new_rr_owner 08-27-2004, 11:25 AM Thanks for all the info, I guess it is alot harder to race than to just go to the track and vent. And I think that is all I want to do for now, and I will check out some of the links.I don't know anyone with a 600 and if I did I wouldn't want to even attempt a stupid thing like racing it without practice first. Alot of my mx friends see how fast I am at the local mx track, and want me to try the jumps and stuff on their bikes to see if it is setup correctly and I just say no way. I'll get into it slowly like I did with mx. Any other tips on bike setup? How would the stock tires hold up for a fun day at the track? For less than a week on it I only have like a 1/4 inch of virgin rubber on both sides and I don't feel like I am even trying ( too paranoid about getting pulled over for speeding). And what do I have to safety wire on the bike?, like the grips, levers and pedals? I understand the tape thing on the lights. First things first, the leathers and good boots.
WAHAHAHAHAHA....RACEWAY PARK!!!!!!! Drag your bike! WEEEEEEEE!
got some really nice back roads in Somerset county, course, racing through the pine barrens down south is always nice!
You can always go to this school too, but you gotta travel

PS - you never told my what part of jewsey your from!
gntbldr 08-27-2004, 06:37 PM if you read the manual in my other post (where it says "or here" ) they tell you everything about bike set-up and how to take corners and ... well Read it. the whole thing. it's great info just to know.
new_rr_owner 08-27-2004, 10:09 PM I'll have to read it again, I didn't anything specific on susp. set up but I'll look again. And I am from linden over by newark.
4passin 08-27-2004, 10:12 PM Kat you from Jersey???
I'm at exit 9.... New B.
We usually cruise to the grease trucks for some sandwiches.... you ever there?
I live less thena mile from raceway park...
We run there all the time for fun....
10.8 is my best on my 954...
4passin 08-27-2004, 10:15 PM oh and for racing, wire tying is to cover all of the bolts that might fall out. It's a safety precaution for other racers.
you might not hear this often on this board but "Turbo is right" try to hook up with a group for a track day...it will be more fun (because of the guidance) and probably cheaper.
Generally you will need full leathers, boots, gloves, and tires with 80%
new_rr_owner 08-28-2004, 10:27 AM I'm in between exit 12 and 13, but 13 is closer. I'm still in the process of showin the bike to my friends and haven't really gone on a cruise yet, plus I don't know anyone else on the road yet. From the looks of this post, I'll have have some soon. Thanx
new_rr_owner 08-28-2004, 10:30 AM I'll probably be at e-town on sunday to hang with my mx friends but I want to wait till after the break-in service to race it. I'll probably only do it one day as to just see for myself what it can do. plus I'm dying to pin it
