: Dammit! Overfilled the oil

I did my first change at 500 miles this weekend and put about 3.6 liters of honda pro in. Looked good after I warmed it up and checked it again but now the sight glass is 100% full when cold.

Anyone know a shortcut to drain a little oil without having to rip my fairing off again? I bought this little suction tube thing from Schucks to try and go at it from the fill hole, but can't get the hose in far enough to reach the oil.

On a related note, how the %$@# are you supposed to get an oil filter wrench cap past those header pipes? I ended up just driving a screwdriver through the filter to spin it off...

I did the same with a screwdriver. Hand tighten the new one so that you can get it off next time.

Sounds like the right ammount of oil to me :? Are you holding the bike upright when looking through the sight glass? Leaning the bike a couple degrees in either direction is all it takes to have the level read too low or too high. Have a friend hold the bike straight for you while you look at the level.

It's on stands in my garage floor, which I assume is pretty level...

I dont know what oil filter remover your using but mine will slip in there and get on enough to loosen it. You shouldnt have to remove the fairing to drain some oil out cause the drain plugg is in between the fairings.

Get the goldwing wrench. It's flat and goes around the filter, the cap won't fit with the headers.

I think the bike needs to be on the ground when you check the oil level. Thats how I do it. Check it on the ground and see if that makes a difference.

Put the bike flat on the ground with no stands and hold it upright to check the levels.....

To remove oil from an overfill remove the oil drain plug for a moment then replace it... No body parts need to be removed to change your oil whatsoever....

The pic below is of the oil filter wrench you need to buy and the one I use... It just slips between the headers to fit it over the oil filter.... Once you break the seal remove the tool and unscre by hand and take it out from behind the headers by going all the way around them to the stator side of the bike......

yep I did the screwdriver thing to get it off, but if you buy a K&N they have a 17mm nut on the top and just wrench it in, too easy :!:

I always use Honda filters. I've never tried a K+N. Nothing can be worse than the filter that you clean and reuse. I think it's a Scotts filter. That filter is a joke.
