Hey, I am curious as to what Arai owners have to say about their helmets? I just picked up the Hayden replica and spent way to much money. I can't figure out how the hell to change lenses. The system is so messed up, is anyone having trouble with this? Who else has an Arai and what did you pay for it?

I've got the Astral, paid 350 or so for it...faceshield change is easy enough on mine.

running the signet gt and paid about high 3's for it .
I feel the same about the lens removal but after you do it a few times you'll get the hang of it.

I paid $700 for it and $80 for a tinted shield at a local dealership. I guess it just takes a couple practice runs to get used to it. My last helmet was an OGK and it was really easy to use. Thanks for the replys and I will have to look at the website!

$80 for a tinted windscreen or visor?

if that's $80 for a visor.......did they even kiss you? because you got screwed.

be careful getting stuff through local stealerships. 700 sounds pretty high.

peace.....and welcome to the board :)

hey, jimmy! my stealer raped me for 520 for the signet till I saw it at the ama's in the arai tent for 380 then went back, bitched, and got some $ back.

Jimmy, it was $80.00 for a tinted visor. I figured the helmet was outrageous, but I was not sure how much the visor cost. I figured it should of been about $50 at the most. Arai has to be the most expensive helmet out there and it seems like the dealerships take advantage of that. Only through the dealerships can you get a warranty on the helmets. So that meant I had to go to a dealership. What have you paid for a visor?

i have a shoei rf-900 black and silver duhamel replica. i bought it new for $340.00. and the tinted visor set me back $35  dark smoke 8)

man just look around. i hate when stealerships screw guys just because they don't look around. i have taken bunches of business from locals just by helping my buds look around on the internet.

One other thing you could try is a chain shop called "cycle gear" The are mostly west and south parts of the u.s. but they match any price from any shop including mail order as long as they have a store front and in stock. They even do a 30 day satisfaction guarantee on there lids. They are a true dealer so all warranties work. Thats where i got my arai and shoe. My rx7 cost me around 350 and my x11 was below 400 i think.

Damn you got raped and then re-raped and then you got shit on, I am not sure if you are into that kind of stuff, but you got it anyway. I just picked up my new Shoei RF1000 Nerve TC1 with Dark smoke and I paid 402.71. I love the helmet. You need to get your dough back man. That is nutz I could get that helmet for like high 5's and the shield should be no more than $30.

i bought my x-11 memorial helmet from parts411.com and got a almost $800 lid for just over $400 almost all dealers use helmet house and so you can take the helmet to any dealer and get it warrentied

Yeah the visors are more cause the vents are thro the visor.

I have the Edwards and LOVE it. Yeah others like some of the HJC's and other but BIG difference.

Love mine, next will probably be the Carbon Vemar when it's available.

I have a RX7. I love it. You'll get used to the visor change. It is real easy. I think I paid in the $400's for mine. I bought in a group deal through Kneedraggers (http://www.kneedraggers.com) Even at the locla dealer I think the visors are only $50ish. I wouldn't buy a cheap helmet...

Open the shield all the way you will see two little clips appear. On the sides those are what you use to remove shield. It takes a few times to get used to, but you will. All shields are kinda messed up to remove but this one is far easier than most helmets. Especially the HJC. They suck....

i have a shoei

I thank God that my wife's Shoei worked as well as it did. Very light, comfortable, and when the time came, it saved her. However, I think that it may be more the fact that she had a good, top of the line helmet ON. I like the looks and feel of Arai also. I REALLY like the looks of the Carbon fibre that Flight through up. That's a perty piece!

The main thing? WEAR IT! EVERY TIME!

I wear a Nolan X-Lite....around $400, visor is awesome...not too hard to remove but it has some mechanisim that allows it to fit snugly so no wind leaks. I was told they were wind tunnel tested too so the aerodynamics are better. I noticed less head bob at speed than other helmets and the vents are nice and easy to use.

Hey everyone, I finally figured out how to work that shield! I love the helmet, even though it was really expensive. It is very light and I never see anyone with it so in a way it was worth the money. I used to have an OGK, and it was really easy to change the shield, so if your looking for another quality helmet go with OGK, or Shoei!

flightmedic, i have seen shark before, a lot of motorcycle journalist have been spoofin the product. I don't really know much about the company or how much their gear costs, but i must admit i do kind of find the helmets annoying with that round hole at the top, but that is just me.

I'll believe no fogging when I see it. I'll bet the small print says. "above 50 degrees"
:D

As has been said. A LID is a good LID as long as it's on YOUR NOGGIN.

Where your hat, fellas. A number of us can atest to it!!!

954pilot
12-12-2004, 05:52 PM
The inner shield doesn't fully cover the outer shield and the only place its ever fogged while I'm riding or sitting at a stop light is where the inner sheild isn't. I've ridden w/ temps as low as 40 degress and the inner never fogged. But the no fog is a small part of why I like it....its comfortable.

My friend has the Barros replica SHark. Hotness. comes with breath gaurds in multiple sizes, and he claims its the comfiest helmet hes worn. Plus where most helmets have plastic hardware around the shield, the shark uses brass. It's about the thickest shield as well, and nearly impossible to fog up for more than a split second, even by directly breathing onto it. its lightweight and proven in Europe and MotoGP. been in the states only 2 years so they are still new to us.

Hey, that is a nice looking OGK helmet. A lot nicer design than the one that I had. You say yours is light? I would have to disagree my helmet was heavy, it was a lot heavier than the Arai I have now. I guess with the new design they have lightened the helmet, but used to their helmets were on the heavy side. Lastly, I had my on in a crash and it saved my life so I am a firm believer in OGK.
