eh... I built a pueter for someone and wouldn't you know it the moment I gotr it up and running the damned thing got the one that shuts down the machine shortly after it gets booted up... Primary target is people without the sp1 update for their xp os and if using dial-up configuration.
I have braodband and was dooping around the net with that box for hours with no problem and the moment I hooked up to dial up that happened......now I'm redoing the thing with 98se for them and spending another 4-6 hrs just because of a bug!
I could be working on a sound system for my truck, putting on a trailer hitch, and buggin around on my quad.......
nope. reloading a computer

hey!
I was running xp pro with a crack for getting updates on it but with xp on it it would constantly drop the internet connection via dial-up...
and the guy really doesn't want xp for preferences sake

I tried 3 different modems and all would drop, tried all the pci slots I could incase it was an irq fault.....
just getting done doing updates now that I have all the software installed... While that was formating and reloading I did get my amp installed though.. :)

Ill give you the skinny as I know it. I have a new dell laptop and home comp. I put norton 2004 anti virus on both of them. This bug by passed antivirus went straight to explorer and erased it. I use dsl through bellsouth and it did the same on both computors. I spent about 12 hrs on the phone with dell and bellsouth tech support and they wernt any help, I finally got a freind of mine who is a geek to fix them for me. It basicially erased all memory for internet explorer and the memory for the modems. It didnt seem to hurt any other function that I could tell, it just wouldt let me on the internet.
when I finnaly got back on we found that norton already had updates for this bug also I installed an spyware nuker to clean out all unwanted downloads. Only the laptop had to be clean booted, what a pain. :!:
I understand that its because some software company thinks microsoft is hosing them so they put this bug out.
Be sure and check for updates daily cause there is new bugs about every week. :x

Mistake 1, buying anything Dell. They are honestly crap now. One time they were quality, but now they use crap. Michael dell made his millions and became a cheapskate.

Mistake 2, thinking dell support is worth any time. They outsource most of their stuff to pakistan or other middle eastern companies. Again, cutting corners being cheap. The cost of an overpriced dell was once justified being that you got outstanding support. now there's no reason to buy one. Have your geek friend build you one next time...it'll be cheaper too :)

Youre right dell might have been the stuff some time ago but they are just plain shit now. Teck support," oh my god" half of them cant speak english well enough and that was my biggest problem so finnally i kept hanging up until a true blooded americian came on so I could understand him.
Dont get me wrong I dont have a prejudice bone in my body but it was plain murder to try and solve these problems with someone that couldnt speak english.
Truth is if you think that dell is shit dont buy a e-machine their really crap I had one under a year and the thing kept locking up even with the memory upgrade.
