: road noise / buzzing through fairing?

Ok, this bike is totally new to me so I'm not sure what to think is normal vs not right. While riding down the street, I get a buzzing noise that seems to come up through the fairing area... like from the front fender area or something. Damn stock pipe, I can hear everything. I think I'm starting to notice the slightest little tick of a leak at the exhaust/head. going to check the tightness on that when I get back from an upcoming trip to ARKANSAS! blah!

when your riding and hear the rattle from the front end, reach over and put your hand on the windshield if that stops the rattle then it is normal. I'll post a pic later so show you how to fix it.

i know it sounds stupid, but check your windscreen bolts. snug em up a little bit, but be careful not to strip em. i had that problem on the 954 of mine. snugged up the screws and the buzzing/rubbing sound went away. the ticking you may hear is also normal.

don't sweat it, it'll keep running strong

The guage cluster used to vibrate on my old 954. When I touched it, it would stop.

wedge a peice of rubber hose between the windshield and the top of the guage cluster. this is the only thing that I found to stop the buzzing noise.

but like jimmy said check the screws first

Nice. :)

another thing you should know about your new to you 954 is that sound that is like a lifter tick or exhaust leak is a standard attribute to the 954.
both of my new 03's had that and when I came onto the forum and addressed the issue many many people replied saying they too had the same and that it was normal....

no worries. that bike can take an asswhoopin and still be the happiest machine to go thousands and thousands of miles with only oil changes and chain lube...

A lot of that ticking noise is the fuel injectors. They do make quite a bit of noise.

I'd like to see her out of her halloween gettup...

Yeah, what was said about the vibration. It has happened to alot of us with 954's. No worries.

A similar thing happened to me, and after like 4 months i traced it to the front fender. You might want to check that too. It was so annoying around 4500rpm all buzzy and shit. I got rid of it by applying some rubber cement glue to the screw heads and threads, and bolting the front fender down. Just be careful u dont crack the plastic.

Hope that helps.
