I didnt think Honda was going to be dead last on the numbers. Yamaha obviously has some problems at 6-8k RPM.....

oh, oh, oh, Kawasaki used their Ringer! But we win over the R1, more torque. Really, its great where todays sportbike are going. weeeeeeeeee

I'd like to feel how each bike uses it's power to see which one best fits my style of riding...
149 isn't something to shake a stick at compared to my 142 I had with the 954...

I'd still wish the bike would have more gusto... something to not just make you go hmmm but something to make you HAHAHARRR

What the hell happened to the R1's torque !......?

It has a nasty hole (@15 ft lbs.) between 5500-7000.... and then it only climbs back to 74 and dies.... and it takes 10000 to make that?

I THOUGHT THEY WERE GONNA SURPRISE US?

From what I'm hearing from reliable sources, that Kawasaki "IS" making 158-164hp on average. It's all business. Kawasaki really outdid themselves this time.

These are some really good numbers for all the bikes, but the question is how accurate could they possibly be? I will believe it when I see it, hopefully I will catch someone smoking down the highway with one of the new bikes. 8)

accuracy smackuracy... how about this.......
you all remeber the older sport bikes with the jets and all and late opening lifters that had almost two power band transitional points but mainly one and how you had to plan your riding around the points (dips and spikes on the chart der eh...).
Same goes for the dirtbikes of yesterday and the ones of today... The old 2 strokes sure pack a get-up and go after the reeds opened up and it's the transitions of the powerbands that you have to time with you entry speeds, gear, and track position (your lane on the highway, track, or trail) and if one wrong move was there...well, lets say 'I' know what I'm trying to say here...

Smooth power is GooooooD :D you have more options and useabilty that provide a more prescise tool of power and delivery. Now given the right handling characteristics you may be able to use every thing that the power is designed to provide.
... Now mind you there are hundreds of different sytles or techniques of riding your bike but only one true way to truely use it's capabilities.

Honda is showing itself to be the one that wants it all. Whatever it might take. To satisfy the most avid of road riders and the most savage of die hards in one flailing swoop.
Or so it seems to me

I am impressed none the less. yet the green does look good...
I didn't mind the black kawi too muchhh  ...

Given the $ I would get the RR hands down but given the $ I would have all of them  for whatever each was good at for me. :)

those are impressive numbers for the kawi, not so impreessive with the 1000rr vs. 954 like i said i expected so much more. i think others feel the same way. and secondly, pip what the hell is with the farking truck pictures!? :?

why are so many people concerned with horse power, as if they even use it all? This seems to be the deciding factor for most people on what bike is best. I wish people would get their heads outta their asses.

Horsepower doesn't mean shit if you don't have the torque to help out... I really am disappointed in the R1.... and the GSXR got beat.... and it's 04 numbers are down a lil across the board from last year (?). Don't know why? But oh well...

So the shootout will probably be between the zx10r and cbr1k.... i think the honda will smash it on every course that has corners...

I think when your ripping down the highway going through the gears you ARE using all the horsepower, if the horsepower doesen't mean shit to you get a nija 500 maybe you can use all those ponies :!:

The truth is that you can take 10 of every bike there put each and everyone on the same dyno and youll have 10 different horsepowers from everyone of them. Its the luck of the draw really. A mech that has a dyno told me that there could be as much as 15 hp difference of what the mags are saying. And too he says that if you get a couple of bathroom scales and weigh the bastards youll see that they all lie about the weights of them too.
Give it a try and see if that isnt true. :twocents: 8)

All i'm saying is for a completely redesigned bike and motor i expected more. your really not getting that much more bike than the 954. go get a leftover for 8600 put a scotts dampner full exhaust and pc3 your still less than a 1000rr and your just as fast or faster, and your bikes way lighter. just my 2 cents. hey to each his own, just ride ,who cares.

your getting a hell of alot more..you dont know what your talking about..the 1000RR has about 8 more mph top speed from the 954..a stock 954 makes about 130-133hp..the 1000RR 145-148?
15 more HP,under tail exhaust, factory damper and alot of new technology..
maybe not in the 1/4 mile you wont notice anything major, shit the 600's run a good 1/4..but on the track and open highway the 1000RR will beat the shit of the 954..you wonder why they never used the 954 in superbike racing? the gixxer would kill it..the 954 is a great street machine but nowhere is it good enough for the track..
for a regular street rider any bike will do..fuck spending $8600 for a left over 954 just get a 600 and save another $2000 ,it more then enough..shit im riding a 600 now, cheaper insurance and alot cheaper to buy then a liter bike..but if you got the cash and want the extra bang the 1000RR is the bike to get,add a full pipe and that shit will get 160+HP and drop about 35lbs..
I got this fucking itch to get this 1000RR already worked out a deal with traxxion dynamics for the suspension :D

I think alot of people get caught up in the numbers, me I just want something that handles good and feels good under me. Before I buy a new bike "2005 or 2006" I will ride em all and look em over real good and then make my choice.

I don't really care about h.p. unless I can use it. And I know I don't use all I have except maybe doing wheelies and straits so I probably don't need any more but I want it. :D

Sorry, speed is fun but id rather be carrying speed through some nice twisties than going on a slab of highway. my 2 cents.

I sat on a ZX-10 the other day..and its narrow...feels light..but to be honest I was disappointed on how it looked...rather "hideous" to me..the magazine pics looked better...as for the horsepower..well said General...the ZX-10 is gonna be a monster for sure..but dont we all remember the notorious headshake that our 954's had...I guarantee the ZX-10 will be plagued with tankslappers by the everyday rider...for all of those who are considering the Kawi(god-forbid) better go ahead and invest in a dampner..because if you gonna try and open the throttle with 160+ horsepower on less that PERFECT pavement you may quickly become one of the many known as "asphalt surfers"..just my 2 cents...

i have never had that "notorious" head shake on my 54... ever... even breaking from high speeds...

GeNeRaL
03-18-2004, 06:28 PM
you will get it once you accellerate full throttle through the gears over the right kinda road. all it takes is a little lip in the road under heavy accelleration to do it. I don't wheelie but i heard thats the other time it was a problem, on touchdown.

Friction954

I think any bike would shake coming down from a wheelie... But seriously General, I have yet to feel the head shake, and I have been down some really shitty roads at high speeds... I mean, I live in Pennsylvania, we have some of the worst roads in the country. LoL

trust him Friction... he's right.
the most common of slaps comes from a small mound in the center of the lane in a mild right (or left but mostly right for the reson of the bikes design) sweeper and your right side of your front tire clips the left side of the tiny mound.
the type of pavement you are on will depict the severity of the slap to a certain degree too.
I used to get slaps in almost any sweeper at or over 130mph with a medium lean angle while slipping in and out of the two tire ruts from all the vehicle packing down the pavement.

different tires also had different slap characteristics too... the stock 03 battle axes were more sensitive than the pilots on the roads by me.

but seriously with the hp these things pump out and the weightlessness of them they ALL should come stock with dampers for that one time that anybody might get the notorious tank slapper.

Yeah, I do believe him GNT... I've just never experienced that bad head shake everyone talks about... *knock on wood* either from speeding, slowing down real fast, or bringing a wheelie down...

And we don't have any really good sweepers around here, except a couple out on Interstate 81... but they are all fresh paved last year :D

you lucky dog!... freshly paved roads!!!...
