I have put on the quiet series supertrapp 12 internal disk muffler on my klr650 and have 9 disks in it to lean out my bike a little and I now went from 42 mpg to 40mpg with a minor discrepancy...
I have had slightly larger front tire put on right before the exhaust so the 42mpg is all stock and the 40mpg is with the taller tire and the muffler. I have noticed that top (not tippy top) speed was 99mph stock and is now 88mph so that's 12mph difference so in all actuality I am traveling farther and faster than what my instruments are reading.
so what I'm wondering with all this is what is my true gas mileage? because I am playing with back pressure to economize my engine performance and fuel mileage.
on the 42 I had to switch to reserve at 198 miles on the trip-o-meter and that was moderate to hard miles (heavy on the throttle) it was 4.71 gallons last ride of the season
and on the 40 I had to switch to reserve at 195 miles on the triper but as I mentioned my speedo is off. this was 4.84 gallons and first ride of 04 season
so I know with the 40mpg I had traveled farther than 195 miles.
I rode parallel with a sherpa digital speedo and with mine at 51 the sherpa's was at 57.
so either way 'I' do the math I'm coming up with 45mpg...
what I was looking at was that if my speedo is 11% off then my odometer must be 11% (assuming the instruments are in synch)
so wouldn't the last mileage of 195 be off 11%
at least I'm thinking so...
so then that would be 21.6645 plus the 195 divided by the 4.84
to equal a 44.765mpg
roughly 45 then...
please help me if I'm not right here...
