Help me decide what to do for my up and coming Pocono Trackday.

The pilot powers on the bike only have about 300 miles on them and 100 of them were in the rain at my grattan trackday. So even though they have a trackday on them, they still look new because the rain didn't let the tires heat up.

But I reeeeeealy want to try the new Bridgestones. Ron Ayers has a great deal on them.

$277 for Soft compound front and rear.

The Bridgestones won the Roadracingworld Tire Shootout.

Use the Powers and put the money towards another trackday.

I'm running the M1's biatch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be a man and run those street tires. They already have more grip than your skill level needs

I've been trying to tell him but he doesn't listen. Pocono is not the place to skimp on tires.

You guys for real?

My boy Gabe want's to buy my M1's. Maybe I'll throw the Powers on next week.

My brother will be running his M1's but I don't think he pushes as hard as me.

Shawn, do you run the 180 or 190?

I'll be runnin the 180.

Yes we're for real you knucklehead. Sell your M1s, run the powers. I'm running the 180s. Shawn just told me that he would run the 180. I'm on the phone with him now.

OK, I'll do it you dick licker

I'm going to Laconia this weekend with the bike (trailering it there), but I'll swap the tires this weekend. I'm trying to find a cheap set of Powers for my brother too.

I got mine for $200 from a guy that backordered them and couldn't wait so he bought M1's. I met him in Mass on my way home from the track.

Pretty good deal huh?

Well guys,

I decided that I'm going to use these Pilot Powers for the trackday and save my $300. Besides I need an oil change and I need to renew my bike registration.

I'll get fresh rubber for my next trackday at Summit Point Main or FUSA in August.

It's so funny because last year, I wanted to ride at every opportunity. I would be out riding right now and would have left my wife at home by herself. But now, my heart belongs to the track. And I have no desire to ride on the street.

Yo Turbo, I was just talking to a guy and he confirmed my thoughts that the Metzler M1 is the same tire as the Diablo Corsa. Metzler and Pirelli are the same company. The M1 and the DC use the same compound, just different tread pattern. Didn't you have the DC's before the Powers?

I'm sure the Powers are a great tire, but they can't be leaps and bounds better than the M1's. I'm running the M1's after all.

Hell, I was still waaaaaaaaay faster than most, if not all of the cats running Powers at Loudon 8) The M1's never gave me reason to doubt them. The front is super planted and the rear would only spin up if I got a bit ham-fisted, and even then it was very controlable.

I just found this and it supports what I just said......

It's the same tire as the Pirelli Diablo. Not the Diablo Corsa.

Michelin has the pilot sport cup there really nice and sticky and if you go to www.sportbiketracktime.com you can get them really cheap. I got the sv650 new shoes for 199.00. I think they are 220.00 for bigger sizes

I might have to get the race rubber.

I just got back from a quick ride and even just weaving the bike to warm the tires, it felt weird. I don't like these things.

You're crazy..............

My Powers are going on this coming Tuesday. My brother just picked up a set too. He's switching to the 180 also.

BTW, weaving does very little to warm the tires on a bike. It has been proven to do nothing more than scrub road shit off the sides.

blah blah blah. I don't like em. The Diablo Corsas steer better.

you know guys I talked to Ben Bostrom his last year before he went back to Europe and we were talking about trackday rubber and he was telling tires are so well made these days that any tire would do even for expert class. Just some words from a pro  He said club racers don't put a hurting on their tires like they think they do

By-Tor
06-12-2005, 06:49 PM
Yeah Dan, but Ben never met Turbo before. He has gained so much skillz from his whopping 3 trackdays that he needs race rubber. He shreds tires and has become the unofficial tire testing guru of 1000RR.com. If he says that the Pilot Powers are junk even though they seem to be the cats whiskers to thousands of trackday regulars, I'll take his word as gospel.

Oh shit, April 1st was months ago  :P

I can tell there is way too much BS in this thread to read

so i'm gonna say.....Turbo, you are not at a skill level yet to need anything more than a good street tire. race tires will only hinder your progress. unless you have tire warmers those tires are gonna be utterly useless.
