From the looks of the vid, it looks like he didn't get on the gas while trying to increase his lean angle and lost the front.

gotta roll it on slowly.

so you;re taking pilot powers off your bike because of another riders error that had nothing to do with the brand and model of the tire?

Definately rider error, no fault of the tires.

My Powers are still going on Tuesday. Turbo is just making up early excuses for our trackday. I can hear them already....... "I would have gone faster, but I just could not get comfortable on these Powers......"

Here's more info on the crash.

"
1. 33 rear, 32 front
2. Temp outside about 68
3. About 700 miles on the tires including two previous very successful trackdays (with remarkably low tire wear)
4. Fourth session of the day, around 11:30 AM
5. 185 lbs (pre-gear)

The Pilot Powers have been absolutely brilliant prior to this getoff. The guys I was riding with said that my lean angles were absolutely unreal, although the pictures being taken that day all around the track show me leaning off the bike a whole lot - way more than most of the other guys there.

As to whether I loaded the front end too much, I'm not sure. That's normally a pretty forgiving corner as it's banked and you can stay on the gas quite a bit going in. You're downshifting just prior to entering the turn (slowing from 120 or so after turn one to about 80 as you enter the turn), then immediately riding the gas through the turn as needed to keep the bike balanced and on the proper line. Never had anything close to a problem with that turn before, but I was taking the whole track much faster than normal as I felt very confident and comfortable. I'm also usually very careful about staying smooth and keeping on the gas so that the weight is distributed properly between the front and rear.

I thought maybe I had tucked the front, too, but when the guys and I watched the video we noticed that the front wheel turns right and not left, which they thought it would do if tucking. I thought maybe I'd hit a bump with the front wheel while quite leaned over, then the mild countersteer caused the wheel to go right, causing more lean angle resulting in a sudden loss of control. But I'm no physicist."

Those are tight tires is what I have heard. If there putting them on 999, they must be pretty good tires.

Not to stir the pot with my first post but.......... May 23 track daze @ willow springs there were 7 crashes. All bikes that went down had Pilot Powers. Maybe coincidences. So i'll just leave it at that. Surf around on some sites. I noticed that alot of guys have gone down on Pilots.

But you know what? The tires really are good. I just think that the reason a lot of people end up going down on them is that they forget that they are street tires and push a little too hard.

I mean, most tire comparos this year have the Pilot Powers lapping only 1 second slower than race rubber. Sometimes less.

For me I run 2 tires only. For street I use Dunlop 208 GP's and track I us Bridgestone Slicks. I bought off ebay 1.front rim and break rotor and 1.Rear the same way. It's really easy to change from street to track now.

I think when I convert my 999 to race trim only, I'm going to switch to Bridgestone BT002s.

They are cheap, and from what I've read have awesome rear grip.

Turbo, You don't hear about guys going down on Bridgestone slicks or 208gp's
