: Tire Choice for Trackday
My first Trackday with Team Promotion is going to be 5/27 on a Thursday.
I think I'm going to run my street tires that day. But after that, I'm probably going to switch to Pirelli Dragon SuperCorsas. Medium in the Rear, and Soft in the front.
Does anyone else here run a medium in the rear/ hard in the front combo????
ebola 03-25-2004, 10:01 AM The SuperCorsas are overkill if you're going to the track for the first time. You won't be able to use them any where near the limit and they'll heat wear before you hit any wear bar. There some deals on Diablo Corsas for like $260/280 180/190, so you save $ and get more use out of it. What kind of tires you running now and what bike. Cause usually OEM tires suck. I might be there on the 27th, make it a long Mem day weekend.
The Duc999 stock comes with Michelin Pilot Sports. I'm using these for the first trackday in May but afterwards I'm switching to the Pirellis. You can still get about 2 trackdays from the SuperCorsas according to one of my friend who runs in the Blue/Black group at TeamProMo.
Da1000RRStuna 03-25-2004, 01:31 PM OEM Pilots for your first trackday? hahaha can wait to see what the Duc will look like after that day..

Everyone has to learn, some have to learn the hard way..Nothing like a set of street tires way over-temp and totally greasy, making you feel like you have no traction at all, but we all have to learn..
gntbldr 03-26-2004, 12:38 AM I enjoy that slipin and slidin and I betcha I can out drive most fools on stockers than with any setup... hahahaha
it's all about the sac on the jack. and the noodle in the noggen.
where's the emoticon for stirrin the pot?

It's not really that bad. I'm gonna take it easy out there and just get familiar with the track. No need for Race tires to do that. The temperature might even be cool. It's not like were in the middle of Summer and your tires blister up after the first session. I'll have race tires on hand just in case. If I feel the need to swap them after the first session then I do that.

Well, yeah you prolly will go easy at first being it's your first time there. I recall when I was there initially on my SillyHawk back in 98, after heating up those street compounds it was a handfull, and being that you've spent almost 3X what I paid for that VTR, I'd be careful..
cbrjimmy1KRR 03-27-2004, 01:07 AM :? don't you need a bike first?
Truck 03-27-2004, 08:04 PM Did you know that the Diablo corsas only ran 1 second behind full racing slicks :!: Thats what im running know, I havent even felt a nudge when behind a freind of mine on 208s and he was sliding all over the place.

Don't you mean the SuperCorsa's??? :?
4passin 03-28-2004, 04:01 PM Damn, I was going to run my stocl Pilot Sports for my first track day too....
If they suck that bad once they get hot, what is the tire of choice?
Keep in mind I want a good tire to have for the occasional track day, but 95% on the road?
ebola 03-28-2004, 04:39 PM My first trackday was on Pilot Sports and they are not confidence inspiring. I think the Pilot Sports are a bad choice for trackdays, especially if you're a beginner, cause once you break them loose they hate to hook back up. Not to mention that they aren't that sticky at high temps.

4passin 03-29-2004, 11:34 AM So I want diablo corsas as a compromise for a few track days, but will spend 95% of the time on the street?
or should I go with teh super corsas?
anyone know of a cheap place to get them at?
4passin 03-29-2004, 11:50 AM metzeler rennsports?

Da1000RRStuna 03-29-2004, 01:07 PM metzeler rennsports?
yeah they fuckin kick ass..great tire..I would of gotten them but they didnt have any in stock..so I got the supercorsa soft..
Truck 03-29-2004, 05:11 PM Sat on the first 1000rr today at the bike shop and guess what it was shod with," Diablo Corsas". Go figure
By the way there is a difference between the regular Diablo and the Diablo Corsas. The Corsas is rated as a track tire. Ive already got about 1000 miles on my back and its just now starting to show some wear on the grooves.
