What do you guys think about these dogs.? I just got a pup 8weeks old. I heard they're mean and will attack your kids. I always though it was in all how you raise your dog? Should I give he away?

I've got a friend that has one, Diablo's his name (the dog damnit! :P ), and he's such a lil soft hearted pooch. I'll admit, the dog puts out the fear to you and if you buckle he'll stay on the upper edge of it but once you just hang out with the lil guy he's harmless. real playfull and he actually played soft-jaw like labs do.

dunno, but how can you predict that one odd time that he gets a bug up his ass. heck anydog can be like that.

I think if he's young, handles himself well and you give him plenty of love and nurture him he'll be a great companion for the family... but that's my opinion

simply put......when raised right, you get a loyal, loving, protective pet. do a little training and it can be intimidating as hell. they can really melt your heart with their affection.

i love pits, had them my whole life and never had a problem except when other dogs would get on our land.

Have your kids handle and control the pup and you will not have a problem. I have seen fighting dogs that would run away from the yell of a little girl.

i dont think you are qualified to make any decisions that affet anyone when you write should i give he away

hahahahaha

its mostly how you raise them, but it takes ALOT of effort, its not a simple thing to raise a well adjusted dog, or pit, its like this, pits have alot more kick ass in them, if you have the time and know enough to raise them properly, they are more kick ass than any other dog ever, more loyal, more intelligent, fearless, with die for you, your children, your home, without thought ever. if you fuck with them and dont know what you are doing or neglect them, it can get real bad, its like dealing with a firecracker and an m80, firecrackers are fun, but m80s are more fun, you simply need the knowledge neccesary to not blow your fuckin fingers off

if you need info i can help you i got a pit and am big into dog shit

I have two pits and a new born. My female is 23 inches at the shoulder and 60 lbs and my mail is a freak and 25 inches at the shoulder and 85 lbs, he looks like satan incarnate. Both of them are the most loyal well adjusted dogs ever and think my daughter hung the moon. The first night she was home Capone (the monster) slept in front of her crib and every time she whined, he was up and chewing on my foot to let me know something was wrong. They do their own thing all day long but at least every 30 minutes the both run over to her, sniff her and give her puppy kisses on her head and then go on about their business.

I am gone all the time (deployed with the Marine Corps) and they get so protective over my wife it's amazing. No one comes near here unless they want them too and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

The male is a good 15 lbs heavier now and his head is the size of a volkswagon lol.

i had one clamp on my hand one time.....never felt so much raw power. it was like a vice.

it was my fault, i had a ball in my hand and pretended to throw it with her at the ready by my side, but i didn't let go of the ball. she jumped, following the ball and saw it still in my hand....went for it and ***CHOMP***........she instantly let go and cowered down, and i looked at my hand and saw meat and blood, and hit her as hard as i could with my good fist (out of reaction). a canine punctured between my index and second knucle and her back teeth did a good number on the whole side of my hand below my pinkie. all that happened in less than a blink.

i sat and thought about it and realized that it was really my fault that it happened. so i loved her up and apologized and we went back to playing fetch :D

It's how you raise them. They can be the sweetest most devoted pet you could ever have. But they are incredibly strong. You will have to watch them very closely around other dogs. Even really good pits will get irritated by other dogs, and when a pit attacks, they are relentless. If you and your family raise it right, it will be an awesome dog. The best protection you and your family will ever have.

That is very true as well. My main concern is the neighbors dogs who like to piss off mine. I have managed to keep him away from them but if he ever got ahold of the one behind my house, I would probably get sued.

Knucle, I had to punch my black on a few times just because he is so solid he doesn't feel much else. A full blow punch in the shoulder barely registers enough for him to realize he was bad lol.

my experience from being around them is that if they get into a serious fight with another dog from that point forward they do not act the same around them, less or no play, get into worse fights more frequently, they dont make up well from what ive seen. but this could be purely unique to the situations ive been aprised of, but in my experience vigilance is key if they will be around others dogs frequently

I noticed that with my German Rot once, but I have been able to break my pits up every time before it gets to the situation where something is going to die. My male (the one I worry about the most) listens like he speaks English to just about everything except to doggy trick shit. He will stop whatever he is doing no matter how fun it is the moment I tell him too. I just hope I am around if he ever locks up with another because my wife won't be able to stop him, she isn't loud enough when his adrineline (sp) gets going.
