So I went to the track and didn't worry about showboating and dragging knee. I took my time in the morning sessions and it all paid off in the end.
Pilot Power Race's worked great again. 30psi front and 28psi rear. We didn't run the 3.3mile course, we just ran FUSA 2.5 miles. My class was cancelled because my instructor couldn't make it. They gave me a $150 credit, so my next trackday will be free. 8)
I started the day running 2:25. By lunch time I was running 2:15s. After lunch I cracked into the 11s. I got stuck in the 11s for two sessions. One session later I dropped into the 2:08s. At that point I was convinced that I couldn't go any faster. In the session before the last one a control rider showed me better lines. Then in the very last session, I ran a 2:05.4 in spite of my fatigue. You can't imagine how smooth I must of been in order to hit that time while I was tired. 2:00 flat is considered expert.
I had 5 highlights of the day.
1) I mastered the drive onto the front straight and passed 2 bikes back to back.
2) I outbreaked 3 bikes into high speed turn 1.
3) I beat a 2003 Gixxer1K on the back 175mph straight (I got a massive drive out of the corner leading onto the back straight)
4) A CBR600RR Zinged up the inside of me on the banking leading onto the back straight. I caught his draft, passed him back promptly and breaked late to protect the line.
5) For the first time, I ran every session of a trackday.
Today for the first time, I actually felt like I knew what I was doing. In the afternoon sessions, I passed people consistently and was one of the faster guys in my group.
My physical training paid off. Late in the sessions, guys in my group would tire out and their laptimes would drop. Then I'd pounce all over them. It was great. In the last session, about 10 guys went out. I started last. I caught and passed 9 of the 10 guys. After I would pass them, they would exit the track. They must have been exhausted at that point.
Best part is, I was faster in the turns then most guys in my session. They would dive in hard, but I would carry more mid corner speed and come out harder. This style seems to be working for me.
I HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE!!!!! I will try to get it converted to wmp. I just finished watching it on my T.V. It came out sweet! It was third person footage. Not onboard.
