Nicky310 08-25-2005, 08:27 PM I'll post this one first, since it seems to be the most popular of my videos.
background: late last fall, after work (~5pm?), just above 50 degrees; I just got my first video camera (got a sportbikecam mount for it, too) & went for a test run.
About 15 minutes into my ride: clicky (http://webpages.charter.net/bausch/deer_short.wmv) (2.1MB)
resuscit8u 08-25-2005, 08:36 PM Oh yes, a personal favorite of mine!
Holy cow.
I didn't know that deers move that quick. When I took my drivers safety course when I was a teenager, one of the things that I remember was that they said that as soon as you spot the deer, to aim for the back of it because animal brains can't process the information needed to turn around.
cbrjimmy1KRR 08-25-2005, 10:15 PM i remember seeing that clip somewhere......i had to pull my own seat outta my ass.....i can imagine yours was a little puckered
gntbldr 08-25-2005, 11:15 PM hahaha. Definately a nice clip.
mission accomplished. camera and mount work well under spontaious stress.
MetalScorpio 08-26-2005, 07:09 AM if that was my video you would of seen me pull right over, go in front of the bike and pee on the side of the road like a dog so i can mark my spot where i almost got OWNED!

Streetfighter 08-27-2005, 04:59 PM Your a lucky guy, shit that was close.
Truck 08-27-2005, 08:13 PM  NICE SAVE!!!!
In the last two months I have had:
1) I came around a curve at around a 80mph clipp, Knee on the ground and split a cow running up the road and the man chasing it.
2) I came around a curve same thing again, split a family and there infant which had ran across the road. Needless to say they werent happy about that, neither was I.
3) Over shot a hairpen curve, Knee firmly on the ground and at max lean and started drifting into oncomming car. Leaned even more and made the save.
You guys think someone is trying to tell me something. Guess its time for me to slow it donw a bit.

gntbldr 09-02-2005, 02:29 PM yo Nicky,
I wasn't trying to outdo you or anything and it's Way too bad I didn't have a cam for what I'm about to write but I'll tell you this... it was one hell of a rush. :
coming off of CW heading west towards Watertown I turned onto Gopher Hill Rd southbound.
Right as I was entering the turn I had a brief thought to not pin it but I did anyway. climbing up to 113mph two Doe's jumped out in front of me. The first one was larger than the Buck that ran out in front of you on your vid and while I was skipping on the front tire across the buckled, weathered road I clipped the first does tail with my mirror at about 80mph while the second doe was skidding on it's hoofs sideways.
Right between the two. all I could muster up was a "wow"... and then the adrenaline started to flow. So I fed off the rush, made the 90 to the right and wheelied up and over a hill and toned my pace down by a hair.
That was one hell of a miss.
Exactly like yours but only I was going faster. wow.
Nicky310 09-02-2005, 05:46 PM HOLY CRAP!
Ok.. this is war!!
A friend and I were looping around Lake Michigan. I was on a Kawi Concours; he was on a Yamaha V-Star 1100. We were up in the northwest corner of mainland MI on Hwy.119 -- it's a crooked lane-and-a-half wide road right along Lake Michigan called "the tunnel of trees." We were cruising along at 35 or 45 MPH in a light mist, taking in the sights, when Bambi runs in front of me. I grabbed the brakes, scooped the deer up a little under it's hind quarter, & spun it around into the ditch. I kept the bike upright (even on the damp road), stopped, and checked out the bike. My friend was behind me, and said the deer ran off after I spun it around. I looked over the bike, and the only thing I found wrong was an inch long crack/split in the front fender with 2 hairs in it.
In my video, it starts after having just passed a car that had held me up. I was also taking it easy for multiple reasons -- late Autumn is deer season; late afternoon is when deer ar most active; it was only 50 degrees, so the road & tires weren't up to temp; I didn't want to go down in my first video. A lot of luck on my side -- if that car hadn't held me up, if I was pushing it a little harder/going a little faster.. who knows what would have happened.

gntbldr 09-02-2005, 06:38 PM That is a goodun Nicky. I get them type of 'message sent' slow-downs at times too. hence forth "I had a brief thought to not pin it but I did anyway". at times when I get these thoughts I may also have a car pull out in front of me and slow down my pace a bit. and many many other things too. premenitions... :)
Tunnel of trees. I've heard of that area before and have tried to visit it but the closest I got (with some friends in a cage) was just south of the Mackinaw Bridge coming from the UP.
man,, Now I just thought of yet another deer story.
I was on my superhawk and headed home from work to Port Washington and when I lived up there I liked to take hwy C east because it follows the lake and it's a very desolate road at the times I would go down it being a second shifter and all.
Well as you head east it does a 90 to the left at a mild bank made of chip-seal so it's very grippey. So I hammer it down and start bagging it as fast as the hawk could fly. I get to my first hill and I got a wicked wierd thought that I just HAD to slow down so I acted out of the impulse and I gave the brakes a real good squeeze. I come over the hill at about 90mph from 152 and am heavy on the brakes still and for good reason. There in the middle of the road is a 10 pt. buck, a real nice sized doe, and even a fawn just taking it easy moving slow and didn't even run when I came flying up and over into their view.
All went good. I've never in my life seen a family of deer like that. And I'm really glad I listened to my instincs on that one too. That'd been an ugly encounetr if I was still booking it at 150+
