The front forks on the 05' 600 are very similar in design to the 1000RR don't even bother trying to set rider sag to 30 - 35mm. Seems folks like rider sag set to 41 - 43mm on front forks just like the 1000RR.

Check out this guy's site. He's a member at .net and you'll find much cool info on your new scooter. Here is the page that deals with your forks and what he did to make them better. http://www.peterverdonedesigns.com/05fork.htm

(please read two replies down for clarity)

ok, from the stock settings, I went one complete turn in on the preloads in the front and 1/4 turn on both the comp. and reb.
That made the bike not plow like the little bit it was and also it is more planted and stable under harsh G's.
BUT now it made the rear a little unstable. During big leans and heavy throttle input the ass end is coming out on me by about a foot at the most and is sorta hopping at the same time.
Time to increase the rear rebound by a hair and go from there.
I haven't felt any preload issues out of the rear yet while at stock settings and the compression seems to feel ok but I do need to tweak the entire package some before I start to go Real nuts with this lil sweetie.

ok... now what I thought were the stock settings were actually the Dealer settings and those two are NOT the same.

STOCK SETTINGS
front
preload = 5 turns in from all the way out
rebound = 2 1/2 out
comp. = 2 1/2 out

rear
preload =4th of 10
rebound = 2 1/2 out
comp. = 12 clicks out

mine was set up at {from the dealer}

front
preload = 4 turns in from all the way out (now at 7 turns in from all the way out)
rebound = 2 1/2 out (presently have it at 2)
comp = 2 1/2 out (presently have it at 2)

rear
preload = 3rd of 10 (still at 3)
rebound = 3 1/4 out (now at 2)
comp. = 11 clicks out (now at 9)

the bike is set up OK, rode it on the track for a mild session and a semi mild session and it tracked very well but had a very slight dive in the front due to lack of preload.
So I need to increase the front preload by another two turns and the rear by one notch. Then possibly play with comp. and reb. just to fine tune it.

Note: ROAD SETTINGS so far....... but work well for the track.

I just went out and set up the suspension a little different:

Rider: 5'8" @ 175lbs.

FRONT:
preload- 10 turns in from all the way out (was 9 before I went and tested it)
comp.- 1 3/4 turns out
reb.- 1 3/4 turns out

REAR:
preload- notch 5 of 10
comp.- 9 clicks out
reb.- 1 3/4 turns out.

I'll take it for a spin on my break and give a small write-up on these settings.

edit:
went out for a little cruise on break. Only thing I will do is up the front preload to 10 turns in from all the way out due to a slight imbalance of preload front to rear when pushed hard in a turn. Dampening feels great.

this setup would do great on the track and on the street.

best I could tell you ,since I can't remember what I was running on the 954, is to go through 954rr.com archives and search that area. You will find a link to there in 954 talk.

OK, I've got 'er dialed in for the street.
here's the settings:

Rider: 5'8" @ 175lbs.(without gear)

FRONT:
preload- 10 1/2 turns in from all the way out
comp.- 1 3/4 turns out
reb.- 1 3/4 turns out

REAR:
preload- notch 5 of 10
comp.- 7 clicks out
reb.- 1 3/4 turns out.

These settings kick Major ass.
I went and rode hard on every type of road condition I could find and the bike railed like a rock over even the bumpiest of curves and tightest of turns. Glue.

These would work awesome on the track too though if you went up to expert class they'd have to be tightened up very little but still would be great though may need tweaking per whatever track you are on.

I know we're on different bikes, but your preloads are very close to mine now.

I'm at 11 turns in on the forks and on the 6th position on the shock.

Our damping is very close except you have much more comp damp on the shock. I might try a bit more next ride though.

We're both 5'8 and 175 w/o gear

yeah, I noticed throughout my reasearch (thanks for your help with that too. ;) )that the 1krr and the 05 600rr have the same suspension but slightly different weight loads on front and rear but damned close. virtually the same bike save for the powerplant and all the minor things...

I was almost tempted to go up to the sixth in the rear but that would be for if I was riding all out and/or if I'd be on the track. But then I'd go to 11 on the front too.
but instead of jacking up the rear to the sixth I just went in two clicks on the comp. for the rear and that gave me the small delay from the impact that I was looking for when carving over a real bumpy surface which there are a lot of here at times.

latest adjustments:
at 11 turns in from soft for the front preload now
front and rear rebounds are now at 1.5 turns out.
was getting some minor pogo-ing front and rear due to the roads getting more buckles in them from the season changing and I also feel as if the suspension is broken in a bit from my first test sessions.

Once you finally get it sorted out the best you can, one of two things will happen.....

#1 You'll get fed up with the factory parts and go aftermarket.

#2 You'll trade in for the 1000RR you've been wanting and start the whole process over again just to end up at #1. :lol:

Everyone should have a motor guy :lol:

lol

When he outgrows that bike, he should turn it into a Formula Extreme bike with 140hp at the wheel. Kevin Erion can be your motor guy.

If I ever buy a 1000RR or a 600RR, Kevin Erion is getting my motor and I will pay top $.

you might be on to something here Turbo. ;) :wink:

but for now I'll just add that I had to turn up rebound on the rear another 1/2 turn at the track last friday.

then I went back to some more of the links above and replaced one with this one:

awesome stuff...
