: STEERING DAMPER
Jimmy Nguyen 09-09-2005, 08:20 PM I want to get a steering damper finally but I don't know which brand and why. The Scotts brand appeals to me because it would be easy to install but it is not as pricey as the other ones. I just wanna know which brand and why i should install it. Thanks Folks

vt954 09-09-2005, 09:13 PM I have a Scott's. I like it. Do a search on this site and you should find a bunch of information about dampers.
meatstick 09-09-2005, 09:20 PM This is a Matris M4 Pro Plus Edition. 16 click adjustments on clutch side. Lightweight, bad ass looking, and works great.

PHA954RR 09-09-2005, 09:43 PM i have seen a few dampers like that i guess...i had a scotts, until someone wanted it more than i did...the took it when they stole the bike. but that particular damper above, it seems like it would get in the way of a tank bag or the handle bars themselves....maybe i am wrong...
cbrewer954 09-09-2005, 09:58 PM get the matris or ohlins. i have the matris and love it.. doesn't interfere with anything.
Jimmy Nguyen 09-10-2005, 09:35 AM I always thought that it would be best to have an adjustable one that you can change. The ohlins one mounts out of the way but is that the only benefit it has. Any other suggestions.
Thank You

The Matris isn't in the way of anything. The handlebars don't hit or even come close to hitting it. It is a bad ass stabilizer!!! Go to www.twobros.com to check it out!
cbrewer954 09-10-2005, 08:45 PM The only neg with ohlins is the adjuster is on the right side. kind of a pain to reach across. The Matris is on the left. One big reason I like mine. But they are both awesome.
Wheelie 09-10-2005, 10:10 PM I set my Ohlins and never had to adjust it,weee

Flightmedic954 09-10-2005, 10:19 PM saved my ass from a big one not too long ago
I kinda wish I had gotten the Öhlins instead of the GPR though
ukdave28 09-11-2005, 10:12 AM Wheelie, That looks like a vortex top clamp not a pro-tek tripple clamp !
C420sailor 09-11-2005, 10:56 AM that's a 954, not his gixxer.
Dan954 09-11-2005, 12:16 PM Ohlins, thats is whats on mine and I like it
ukdave28 09-11-2005, 02:07 PM My Mistake........ I guess I should the whole thing
Jut8_954RR 09-11-2005, 02:18 PM I have had the Scotts, ohlins and the GPR on my bikes. I seem to like the scotts the best, they all are pretty easy to install, i just think scotts has the best customer service, and they seem like they work the best and are the most/easiest to adjust. The GPR was ok, but i like them better on my CRF than i did on my 954, it just seems like scotts is the best for me.
Truck 09-11-2005, 06:12 PM Scotts on mine and works great. I cant say honestly about the others as I havent had them.
I do like the adjust on the fly though. Depending on how hard Im riding for the day depends on if I have to do a little fine tunning.
Jimmy Nguyen 09-13-2005, 01:51 AM The matris and the ohlins have very good reviews. I think I will go for a scotts damper. It just looks cleaner than the rest even though it doesn't seem to perform any better. Thanks for all the help fellas

Jimmy Nguyen 09-18-2005, 11:16 PM Where can you get that clamp at. That looks nice and also, where can I get carbon fiber wind thingies(don't know what they are called) that direct the wind under the tank.

Lizard Killer 09-24-2005, 09:57 PM This ride was great! We went through Big Bear, rode on Route 66, rode on the "Million Dollar Highway", saw the 4 Corners Monument, got no tickets, rode very fast quite a few times, went through CA, AZ, NV, UT, CO and NM. 2100 miles in 5 days.
And the steering damper was great. Believe it or not, my upper body was way less sore at the end of each day.
rolling 10-20-2005, 12:34 AM I know that dampners stop or limit head shake but when do you get head shake Im a noob so does it only happen if you land a wheele wrong ??? or is it a high speeds too?
Terry 10-20-2005, 03:40 AM rolling, headshake usually happens under hard acceleration, when your front wheel becomes very light, & it rolls over uneven surfaces it will bounce back & forth, hence the headshake. I saw a guy have such a bad tank slapper (that tossed him) the front tire actually left black marks every time the tire touched off.
C420sailor 10-20-2005, 05:01 AM if you get a slapper, you should do one thing:
grab a handful of throttle, and then ease out of it.
grabbing brakes will generally increase the intensity of the slapper because you're putting more load on the tire. getting on the gas takes load off the front, or in some cases takes it right out of the equation. then slowly roll back off and get on the brakes.
