here's the variables:
03 has 3500 mi. on it
05 has 1500 mi on it.
03 rider was able to full tuck
05 rider was able to 3/4 tuck due to tank bag
03 speedo read 169
05 speedo read 163
we ran each other quite a bit within the miles road and the bikes are almost equals.
with his being loosened up I have a nice midrange grunt to look forward to in the next bit of time. I remembered what his bike was like for I was the one to break it in for him and it has changed A Lot since I last rode it.
It needed major adjustments like throttle, clutch lever, front and rear suspension really all setup, well he was real please with riding my bike for how it felt as it rode so I set his up just like it. dude fell in love with his bike again, that was cool.
NavyMac 09-12-2005, 01:55 PM the 600 top speed actual is 151!???
C420sailor 09-12-2005, 02:35 PM wow, i thought they were faster than that.
Knucle01 09-13-2005, 09:59 AM 151mph?????? i thought they did at least a buck 60......my 01 600F4i used to read 162...but i guess that was bullshit now lol
I doubt they were tucked all the way. Aerodynamic drag from your helmet can cost you 10mph easily. I do it all the time on the duc. Your chin really needs to be on the tank and your ass on the rear seat.
Stuna used to say this all the time and he was friggin right.
gntbldr 09-13-2005, 10:22 AM 03 rider was able to full tuck
05 rider was able to 3/4 tuck due to tank bag
he was tucked all the way but had on jeans and a textile jacket
BUT I have been under full tuck with leathers on before and still didn't see much over 163 on the speedo. that's wfo for almost an exact mile on level ground.
yes there may have been about 3-400 rpm left but there's nothing realy to be had after 13 and a half

drop a tooth on the front and you will probably see a higher top speed because you will hit redline
gntbldr 09-13-2005, 12:41 PM drop a tooth on the front and you will probably see a higher top speed because you will hit redline
cool. that's been on the list for a while now.
Anonymous 11-26-2005, 01:41 AM That is a cool toy. The Gps....How much would that cost for a decent one..
Do you have to pay a monthly fee?

Do you have to pay a monthly fee?
that one was $160 a year or so ago.
It's a Garmin Etrex Legend
no monthly fee. just a load of batteries or an optional 12V adapter
btw, welcome to the forum, guest.
1WHEELMAX 11-26-2005, 10:50 AM yea I need to get me one of those too.
I don't think changing your gearing makes your topend any fast it just either gets you there faster or slower depending on if you gear up or down. It does change your speedo thou and makes you think your going faster.
Gnt if you change your sprockets before you do it take your tank bag off and see what you can get out of it now and then change the sprockets and do it again on the same day same conditions same stretch of road and let us know. That gps doesn't lie and we all know speedos do.
If I get a prs and happen to regear the new bike I will do the same, cause I really don't think it can change your topend.
the only way it could change it is if your bike doesn't wind all the way up in 6th, and you change the the gearing just enough to make it do that. on my 954 after I changed the front spocket by one tooth I was hitting the rev limiter in 6th all of the time. Before that I only hit it a few times.
C420sailor 11-26-2005, 04:19 PM re-gearing will improve top speed. for top speed you want to gear the bike so it runs out of steam at redline. if it hits the wall at 80% of redline, you're not using all of the bike's HP. HP makes top end speed. you want that needle to stop right around your redline so you're churning out max hp.
1WHEELMAX 11-26-2005, 04:45 PM yea I agree, you would have to gear higher for more top speed.
gearing down only makes the bike hit the rev limiter.
Truck 11-26-2005, 04:46 PM Mine is faster on top end now that Ive droped a tooth on the front. 8)
1WHEELMAX 11-26-2005, 04:47 PM truck do you have a gps to tell you that or are you just going by the speedo?
Truck 11-26-2005, 08:23 PM The speedo is all I have but where Im getting that at is that there is a straight near my house on the interstate that is about 2.5 miles long and with stock gearing I think the most i ever indicated was 168. Since ive put the new sprocket on I have indicated I think 178. When you factor the drop which shound be more that 6 miles an hour it seems to me that ive gained top end.
1WHEELMAX 11-26-2005, 08:28 PM was you hitting the rev limiter before the change?
gntbldr 11-26-2005, 10:28 PM thing I noticed is there's more useable power near the top end with the 15t front.
actually think overall mph decreased by a few though.
that gps run is with the 16t, I can easily duplicate the run come late spring now with the 15t front and see what the nitty gritty is...
1WHEELMAX 11-26-2005, 10:32 PM yea thats for sure it makes it more usable, you can get there a lot quicker too. I'm just trying to say that gearing down will not give you more mph unless for some reason you were unable to get to redline on stock gearing.
It for sure make a bike a lot faster getting to readline and In my opinion it could give you a different result on a dyno too.
gntbldr 11-26-2005, 10:35 PM yup. I'll be heading to the dyno after the 1dt of the year to tune in a custom map. just bought a power commander today with the Honda card. :hehe: ...
1WHEELMAX 11-26-2005, 10:36 PM cool, I plan on getting another custom map done once I get my bike broke in.
gntbldr 11-26-2005, 10:39 PM hell yeah, only way to go (imo)
it'll be nice to do the comparo of top end then because I will be defin sure to hit rev lim in 6th. that top end run up there was a few hundred or more away from rev lim and just sat there.
so in the end, yeah, maybe I will see a higher mph since I'll have the power to use up the last few hundred rpm and keep it there...
1WHEELMAX 11-26-2005, 10:40 PM I agree.
CBR-888 11-26-2005, 10:45 PM yup. I'll be heading to the dyno after the 1dt of the year to tune in a custom map. just bought a power commander today with the Honda card. :hehe: ...
holy fuck, boulder! sweet!
gntbldr 11-26-2005, 10:52 PM thanks man. I also bought some new sidi boots and have a pair of alpinestar smx plus gortex boots sitting in my truck headed to your place tomorrow afternoon. you gonna be around?
