Rossi crashed out!
He'll get em next race
http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2005/Sep/050918b.htm
But on lap 13 Rossi and Melandri tangled. Both fell and did not restart. This left Max and Capirossi out on their own with a 3.2 second advantage over Tamada. Checa, John Hopkins (Suzuki) and Colin Edwards (Yamaha) continued the pursuit in fourth, fifth and sixth - but they weren't close to the hot race rhythm of the front three.

Looks like HRC is crying again saying Rossi did it on purpose
Accusations of favoritism are flying. Rossi was the subject of an HRC protest but that was thrown out after a long meeting

dont just pull the parts of the article out that you want to believe. you forgot these (made by respectable Julian Ryder as well...):
"it looks as if Rossi, in a hurry to get past Melandri and catch the rapidly disappearing Capirossi and Biaggi, managed to tag Melandri attempting an outbraking move.
This was not the first incident at this corner but it had drastic consequences. Both riders went down and Melandri stayed down with a footpeg shaped hole in his foot. He was patched up and helicoptered to hospital.
Now you need to know that Honda's 250 wild kid Jorge Lorenzo had already been handed a race ban because of a last-lap incident which put him and Aprilia's Alex de Angelis on the floor as they fought for rostrum positions. This time there was plenty of footage to study and the helicopter clearly shows de Angelis running wide then cutting back only for his path to cross with Lorenzo who was having a dart at his bitter rival Dani Pedrosa. It was clearly a racing incident but Race Direction decided to ban Lorenzo. "
This is why honda protested. Rossi is great and all but he gets away with ALOT more than anyone else does. thats just a simple fact wether you like him or hate him. :)
EDIT: and they arent crying and saying he did it on purpose, they are saying the risk he took to make the pass was unsafe. it is the responsability of the rider making the pass to pass safely. He was fine in the incident with gibernau as gibernau altered his line and ran wide and cut across when they came together at Jerez. This was a different story, and now we have a 2nd place in the championship contender out for next race likely. Not intentional, just unsafe!

While it is the responsibility of the rider to overtake safely, it is also the responsibility of the person who goes off the race line to come back on in a safe manner. He went way wide, which warranted checking up and coming back on the pace safely, which he did not do and instead he drove right across Rossi's nose. Once a rider goes off the race line, they are responsible to be aware of what is going on behind them before they come back on the line. Melandri was way off the race line.

it looked like Rossi was late breaking & Melandri didnt have Rossi cleared & cut into his line
equal fault, racing thing
but the footage wasnt really that good...
I am glad he didnt bag it w/ 5 to go
but hated to see someone hurt

yeah it's kinda funny how there's no clear footage of this incident lol. any other incidents there are, and you know there are cameras on that corner cause they show it every single other lap lol
but anyhow it's easy to be an armchair racer. im just going off of what was said by rossi himself about melandri taking the wide line and seeing him take that same line every lap prior to.

yea it hurt to see him go down, but it really doesn't matter he is the champ anyway.
