: New Member Apoligizing...Sorry.
BiG Al 09-18-2005, 11:50 PM Yea sorry Guys the only thing I brought to this Forum so far has been questions...
I am new to owning a 1000RR, so bear with me, hopefully soon enought I will answer others questions....
Lately I have been reading alot about everything on this forum...
That said I have a request..I'm going to Polish my frame soon..I need advice.
1. How do you smooth out the Welds on the frame? will a dremel rotary tool be fine?
2. Should I take any precautions with the Frame? It the Paint going to be a hastle.
3. If anyone did this before Please send me as many tips as possible..Im familiar with polishing Car rims..but nothing to this extent..Comon were talking about an RR baby..
How money is that???
slodsm 09-19-2005, 12:41 AM I have yet to see one with the frame smoothed man, I personally would be a bit iffy about dremeling down my welds. If you did end up doing that, I think the first thing I would do on completion would be have an NDI tech look at it either via Xray or Die penetrant inspection to make sure you didn't weaken it. Good luck.
BiG Al 09-19-2005, 03:28 AM There is a NDEV program at my college, I will check that out. I'm Itching to have this Polished though...
Thanks for the input..
slodsm 09-19-2005, 03:46 AM I have seen two polished without the welds smoothed, they also had chrome trees, wheels, and arm and they were hot, I love the look of them I was just wary of having the welds smoothed.
By-Tor 09-19-2005, 07:21 AM Personally, I would be very scared to grind the welds smooth. :?
You should send our member joeroke (http://1000rr.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=168) a Private Message since he has a fully polished frame and just about the most blinged out 1000RR I have seen. He has an eye for detail and I'm sure he could steer you in the right direction.

Knucle01 09-26-2005, 10:17 PM Don't smooth out the welds, a friend of mine did it and his frame cracked in half. It will weaken it greatly
that would suck at 140mph lol
joeroke 10-08-2005, 08:15 AM you can smooth the welds... my friends shop does it on every bike he touchs. if you dont know what you are doing, then dont do it.. but it can be done. also, if you never polished a frame before...then you wont know of the huge mess it makes.. best thing you can do is take it to a shop and have them do it for you...
BiG Al 10-22-2005, 11:11 PM Too Late  I Alreaddy Started to sand off the black coating.. lol....
