Well after watching a few new videos and reading some more about how to do wheelies I finally started doing standups in the staggered stance. Damn, it is so much better. Left foot back, right foot forward. The thing I like about it is when the bike comes up to the balance point it is effortless to ride them out. No strain on your arms, your legs don't get tired, and the bikes just floats there. One thing I did notice is the room for error is smaller and any kind of movement makes the bike respond quick, real quick.

Today was the first time I can actallly say that I was riding at a constant speed when getting up to the bp. My speeds are so much slower and I feel in control. Between clutching them up and standing staggered its like night and day compared to powering them up and standing on the front pegs.

cool, I've never tried that before, it always seems scary for me to put my feet on the back pegs.

but the again I am 6'2 so I have pretty long legs.

I hear ya, thats what I meant to say, I don't do stand ups at all cause I feel like I'm way above the bike.

i ride with a guy that's 6'5" and he can ride em forever. one of the best stunt is that tall or even taller.

so that's no excuse. it's all in what your comfortable with.

I agree with Jimmy on this one. I think if you can ride sitdowns for a ways, then you will think standups are the shit for a couple of reasons. When standing your body acts as a counterbalance and being tall, I am 6' it helps balance out the bike. When you do stand ups your view is so much better. Sitdown wheelies are cool, but I like to see where I'm going and by sitting you have to look to one side of the bike or the other. I know the first time I started doing normal stand ups it was scary, but once you start practicing them there is nothing like them. Now with the staggered stance, its even better. If you start doing them, just take it a little at a time to get use to them and then all of the sudden it will totally click.

I used to do standard standups on my 954's. haven't tried them on the 600 yet but I know I won't be able to do this staggered stance ones, I don't have any rear pegs! hahaha

hey, I would love to do them, when I was younger thats all I did on dirtbikes (standups) but when I stand up the bike is so far under me it feels awkward, I'll start trying to stand up when I do some sit down wheelies, see if that feels better. Heres another excuse, I ride one night a week for maybe an hour and a half. weee

very predictable... i powered up the rr on accident, almost looped it! scared the shit outta me! jus' little ones now!
just need practice i guess, the xx you just snap it and up she comes, even w/3 bottles of wine in the tank bag! i am sure the rr is better, just gun shy for now!

yeah she does come up REAL fast in 1st. for little ones, i like to scoot my ass back in the seat, get her up to 5k in 2nd, and snap her open. pops a nice 10 o'clock. it's fun.

i cant wait to try clutching her up in 2nd. it'll be a while before i do standups though.

Well one thing ive learned is that I can steer the bike on one wheel when standing up; I cant do that sitting down. Im getting there with them however havent been clutching yet. Ive tried and its real nasty so maybe one day ill tuff it out and learn to clutch.

Clutching is the only way to go. I got frustrated with it the first few times I tried it, but once you get it you never want to power wheelie anymore. You said in another thread that it feels like the bike lurches forward when you clutch. I had the same problem at first and it was because I let off the throttle when I would let the clutch out. The thing that helped me was to use one finger on the clutch, just barely pull it in till it slips, stay on the gas and throttle it a little more, than let the clutch out fast. I can clutch all the way to 3rd with no problem, and one time I clutched 4th by mistake. The thing about clutching is its so predictable and you can bring the front end up at a much slower speed. Combine that with standing staggered on the pegs, and I can ride that wheelie out a long ways.

Im heading to the gap today. Ill be riding 45 minutes on the highway with friends getting there. I wish Kybie954 could figure out how to post the 10 second vid on his cell phone he got of me doing a 80 mph stand up. Oh well! Yea ill work on the clutching but not in front of anybody

Wheelie I tried to do a stand up on my brothers R1 and with the center of gravity higher on that bike it made it feel real light and wobbly. Maybe this is what you are dealing with  One things for sure you da man, youll figure it out.

Tire pressure is a big thing when it comes to wheelies. Most guys who ride wheelies have between 20-30 psi in their tires. LIke I said before I use 28 psi and its about the perfect pressure for all around riding.

Wheelie, are you trying to stand up from a seated position? One thing I found was if you put pressure on one peg more than the other this will cause the bike to wiggle. I stand on the pegs and crouch a little before I bring it up. Once the front wheel lifts I straighten my legs out as it reaches the balance point. The thing I'm trying to master right now is throttle control. Little adjustments and I ride them like a pro. If I start getting choppy with the throttle its hard to get in a groove.

Wheelie, I know your the man when it comes to wheelies and I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but from what you described I think the problem your having is going from a seated position to a standing position. If you standup on the pegs before you bring it up, I think the bike will be way more stable when the front wheel comes up. I like to crouch just a little and as it comes up I try to stand straight up. I had to experiment for awhile before I got it down.

I'm 6'3 and stand staggered. I straightened my left leg and pulled the bike to my chest once and i was a good two feet above the headlight it was kinda weird.
