thought I'd start a new domain where those of us that have had injuries and still get right back on the horse again to do what it is we love.

There is no injury list that means more than anyone elses it's all the same in my book...
something that you had happen that kept you out of the fun and that's what is the important thing.
even more important it's like an animal in the wild... the do what they can with what the have. or have left.
and even More important is if you find yourself making stupid little mistakes Slow down or Stop. and re-collect yourself.

I had this all pretty much happen to me from not taking my own advice... paying too much attention to trying to ignore my mistake, ignoring of my fatigue or just plain 'ol egotism.
------------------------------------------------------------------

sprains:
both ankles 6 times in 4 years...
numerous appendages

ligaments:
both shoulders
both elbows
left knee (bent to a 90 degree to the left once. another, twisted whole left leg 180 degrees towards the inside)
both ankles
both hips
neck and spine
entire left hand

breaks:
skull
left tibia (inner lower leg bone)
left tarsal (foot bone)
left knee cap
left hip
left clavical (twice)
vertebrae (one of which in the lower back that's been seperated for years and will take many more to grind away a collapsed disk and then fuse with my tail bone)
tail bone (5 times)
both elbows
right clavical twice, four places in two inches
right thumb, middle finger and pinkie
left middle finger, index(twice) and pinkie
right big toe

seperation:
right shoulder

dislocations:
right shoulder thrice
left shoulder
left hip twice

road rash and other stuff:
road rash on both legs
bad rash on my left foot
rashed up both my knees
both arms
munched up my left hand pretty good
peeled the skin back on my left index finger
and ground off the tendon on top and a bit of the bones that were exposed
(needed reconstructive surgery for that one  )

about all that comes to mind right now.......

being able to have the will to keep going and look (on the outside) like no injuries have taken place???

blessingly priceless.

Anything that takes you out of the game for Any period of time is still being taken out of the game.
No matter what it is just keep strong and

ride safe, ride responsibly within yours and the bikes limits while at your control, and Ride On!!!!!!!

the femur by itself is a m.f. whomper :!:
it's the second most painfull bone to break and the longest to heal.
but you already know that......
I give Anybody a wholesome pat on the back after a firm handshake for getting back on the horse after any down time served...

some of the suckiest downtimes were from the little things... the big things are big enough to say,"yeah, I can't go riding" but the little ones have you think "I can go for an easy ride..."
then you get a big one because you can't just go for an easy ride.

damn... I forgot to add a rib to the broken list... hahaha
fucker re breaks every time I have to crawl under a car to work on something...
been in limbo on that since 1997

Knevil... My friends two boys know me mainly by that name...
when I was 3 I went as Evil Knevil for holloween, was riding 2 wheelers without training wheel then, had my first bike one of those that don't stop peddling, have no brakes, and at the age four was jumping garbage cans with it..
wierd pedaling in the air and landing on non-inflatable hard rubber tires

Ill tell the truth, if I had it to do over again id of listened to the people that was telling me that I was pushing too hard. My brother on his R1 is pretty fast and I was getting about 25 mpg faster in the curves than him.
Well im not looking for that ceiling any moore, I just want to have fun. Im still faster than my bro but not that much faster.
I was feeling good sunday and went for a ride and was in no real pain and I couldnt help it I just had to ride a wheelie and brought it up in 1st shifted to 2nd and rode it for about 100 yards or so then had to set it back down cause of the pain. I pulled something and well the ride was over, I putted back home cussing myself for not just enjoying being on it without pain. So I kind of made a promise to myself that if I couldnt enjoy a ride without wheelien then I just wont ride.
I tell the truth though, I shouldve gotten killed, everyone said that, the people that saw me wreck, the paramedics, the highway patrol, and the doc's. All I can say is that God must have been looking out for me. So I think that Ill thank him by telling the truth about the miracle of me still being here and not pushing the bike so hard any more and just enjoying the benifit of riding. Now Im not saying that I dont have fun, I do, Just not as crazy fast like I was doing before. The knee only goes down occasionaly instead of all the time now. And most assuredly like older said when the voice starts talking Im gonna listen. Thats my story and Im sticking too it.

thanks truck for doing exactly what I was hoping this thread would turn into.
Lessons learned.
I have preached here and there and everywhere about things such as you mentioned and I wanted to give some space for others to share what has them do what they do now... possibly knowing better. :)

Keep it 8)
p.s. if I could do it over again I'd end up doing it all over again

Right On!!! it took my elbows 3 years to stop being in soooo much pain and they are still sensitive to the slightest of bumping on things....
I feel your pains :!:
But not so much when I'm Riding!!! :D

Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Had to add a little to your list huh? lol

My list is short....

1: Full reconstructive surgery on my right shoulder.

And when I say full, I mean FULL! I tore 4 out of 5 ligaments, several tendons, 9cm tear in my rotator cuff (thats right, 9cm, not 9mm or about 3.5 inches), tore my pectoral muscle away pretty good, tore away my bicept muscle pretty darn good, when one of my ligaments tore away from my shoulder socket it took a piece of bone with it, tons of soft tissue damage.

My brother Snowdog can tell you what it looked like when he found me sitting on the side of the road.

Surgen said it was the worst shoulder he has ever seen and my leathers probably kept my arm from being torn away.

I have a thread on here somewhere with pics of my body and bike damage.

WEAR YOUR GEAR!!!!!!!!! (you too gnt, lol)

I am blessed to have only been in one accident and I was wearing a helmet and jacket. I was hit from behind at about 25 mph getting on the on ramp for I-55. It was at night and the girl was young and said she didn't see me. All that happened was I flew off the bike landing on my head and I rolled a little bit down the ramp. My bike went flying. My left shoe was shredded and my visor flew off my helmet. My glove was a little scraped as well as my jacket, but that was it. I got up and looked around like what the fuck happened? The only lingering injury that I have is a sore pelvis, but its not that bad. I hope to keep it that way!

space for others to share what has them do what they do now...

I used to think I knew that. I'm not so sure anymore. When things are going well in my life, I pretty much know what I'll do and how I'll react to almost anything.. If things are really messed up, I'm not so sure.. When things get really messed up, sometimes I don't think at all. Those are the times I shouldn't be riding... It'd be nice to be able to blame that bullshit on others, but I'm the only one that can mess me up.

damn. Did that sound stupid.

i don't know how a person can go tumbling for about 200 feet and only end up with a lil rash on both knees.

when i had my tumble i was so fortunate. it seemed like it happened in slow motion and i thought i would never stop!! sounds stupid, but i think all the falls i took in my martial arts training helped alot. i was concentrating on going with the roll rather than fight it. if i had fought it, i bet i'd been F'd pretty bad. other than a few minor sports injuries....nothing much to report here.

the only problem i've ever had from wrecking the motorcycle was this past one at mid-america. cracked the ball of the shoulde joint (forget what they called it) and chipped a bone on the front of the shoulder where the ball pushed out, and tore some of the lining a little. and then cracked 2 ribs once when i hung onto a high side and landed and slamed my chest into the tank a few years ago.
tore the piss out of by body on my bicycle when i was a kid though. LOTS AND LOTS of road rash. knocked out 4 teeth that i can recall, ripped a finger nail all the way off. the whole damn thing. that sucks bad. tore my ear and rashed my face, factured my collar bone when i tried to kick the bike sideways in the air. i just didn't get it brought back down. broke my left thumb, 4 finders on my right hand, fractured both wrists and broke my left one once, fractured both ankles. and broke my right knee. all of that was on my little huffy and i'm sure i left some stuff out.

Hmm... I'll take a bubble-wrap suit, size 10 US

Skull fracture when I was 2. I'll try to get the pics of my head wrapped in bandages from mom.

Stitches from lip into nose when I was about 6. That was not pretty, I can show you the scar still.

Stiches in the forehead, hit a tree while sledding, split the toboggan in half.

Surgery to remove some funky growth, left wrist.

Wisdom teeth surgically removed.

Front teeth broken out- sister backhanded me and put her class ring through them.

Misc dislocations, sprains, strains.

Broken bone in my back, unloading chemical gear in the Army.

Crushed left wrist, same Army accident.

Dislocated left shoulder (the first time), same Army accident.

Second dislocation of left shoulder- at mom/dad's house, don't ask!

Knee turned funky colors, doesn't look right, after my low-side this winter...

Some funky brains thingy going on- neurology follow-up appt in August.
