What oil do you guys recommend when changing the fork oil on the 954? and what weight?

5w is normal for most but if you want slower damping than the stock feel run 7w or mix even amounts of 5w and 7w.

most hard core riders use 7.5 so I'd say kinda... yeah.
You live in CA so with the average temp being lets say in the 80's I don't see much of an issue except harshness till the oil's warmed a little.
I'll do a search on this and get back to you.
I am running 15w in my 37mm's on my klr but the vavling on that isn't as small ported as on the 43mm soo... till I get back to ya.

Best I could find quickly (http://www.honda-fireblades.co.uk/Workshop_fork_oil.htm)

and according to this it Is 10w for up to the 1999 cbr's

so far that's all I can find that's suitable info

Up here in WI it gets cold at times and to have response I ran the mix to a 6w but if I was in your shoes I'd be running ATF or the 10w for that added damping... also cause I like to catch air at times

you're welcome. :) I have read of some that weigh 200 plus geared up to be running 15w but also that the people that do drag setup to be running 15w to 25w...
food for thought.

Fork oil doesnt go anywhere it just stays in one place and does its job. All the metal shavings are just floating around in the oil and the dirtier it gets the more it can damage the fork tubes, seals and guides. When you cange the oil youll see how dirty it is. A lot worse than engine oil

Typically, most manufacturers like to suggest replacing fork fluid @ 20k miles or every two years. Fork oil DOES wear out. Just replace it & see how much better the forks feel. Another suggestion, take apart the rear suspension links and lube the bearings evry time you replace the fork fluids. What a difference!
