Whats up all. This weekend I went out ridding on my 02 954 and experienced a heavy chatter from the front brakes when I got on them hard. My bike only has 4k mi. on it. Does anyone know what causes this and what needs to be done to fix it?
Thanks for your help

I have had light chatter come from my front brakes once or twice. I have measured run-out on the rotors and found them to be true. Dont really have an explanation, but keep an eye on the situation. Have a machine shop check run-out. If there is a small amount of run-out it can be magnified when the rotor is heated under hard braking, thus creating a temporary warpage effect.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it to a local shop and have them look at it this week. If it is the rotor, should I upgrade or have the warranty take care of it? I mean it doesn't seem like its a problem with the quality of the Honda rotors in general or is it?

waranty does not cover a bent rotor...

I have noticed the same thing...
Under heavy braking it's fine then when I let off a little it starts to chatter...
When I release the lever and reapply the brakes it's fine.

Try taking your pads out and cleaning them well, next clean the hell out of the carrier bolts (the two long allens you remove to take out the pads). The chatter is coming from the pads not returning all the way after braking. If the dont return they can pick up a harmonic vibration that will give you that noise. This is a tip from the guy at EBC that heads up the race braking division and it worked for me.......
