from amasuperbike.com:
Rumors have been running rampant on the racing side of the industry for the past 24 hours that Anthony Gobert (28) will return to the US racing scene for 2004--on a Honda.
Gobert split with the Ducati Austin team in 2003 after Road America and has not raced in the US since; although he recently successfully raced a Super-Motard event in Australia.
The story is that Gobert will team with younger brother Alex on Erion Honda CBR1000RR machinery in the AMA Superstock class.
Reached for comment this afternoon, Kevin Erion of Erion Racing was asked directly if Gobert would be riding Erion machines, to which he replied, "no comment".
High-ranking Honda sources, who spoke on the condition on anonymity, confirmed that discussions have taken place with Gobert, but as yet there was not a deal.
As per the new 2004 Superstock rules, factory-contracted riders may race either Superbike or Superstock--however not both.
