JCSB is being moved over to a new, quicker server. The move should be done by tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience!

We are all jonesin' man!

Even Trackwidow is, she wants to get some final stuff down about the party and is waiting for the site to come back up. Hopefully tomorrow. Apparently, the backup that happened Saturday killed the server and everything is being backed up onto a new server.

How many days has it been now? Are they running a 486 or something?!? :D

BlueHost.com (http://www.bluehost.com/track/madisons/1) keeps upgrading their offerings -- 10GB storage. 250GB/mo. bandwidth. Fast download speeds. Still $6.95/month... Just sayin'....

I plan on moving to my hosting at godaddy eventually, but for now, the site is free with no source of income, so the books are perfectly balanced. :)

As soon as it is back online, I am going to look seriously at getting the entire database switched over to something I have some control over. I am very pissed off at this, free or not.

I really wanted to keep it free, and promises of more stability and faster page loads, etc. are there with this new server, but I am still not happy about it.

Yes. Exactly.

I am going to look at options for getting on a different server/paid hosting. If I go that route I will switch over to vBulletin as well. I know it will be expensive, so it may take a while.

I will also look at cheaper alternatives as well, including keeping the phpbb format, but a paid setup, where I can legitimately bitch when it is down and have more control when things get screwed up.

Thanks for your patience!

there are a number of free forum websites on the Internet -- just do a Google search on 'free forum.' Just try to make sure they have multiple servers and/or a guarantee on up-time:

http://www.forumco.com guarantees 99.999% up-time.
http://www.forumforfree.com uses PHPBB, so it may be easier to import your existing database
http://www.forumer.com "100% free hosting since 2003" --14 servers, uses PHPBB, over 30 free skins, unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, use your own domain name or use theirs (IE jcsb.forumer.com)

paying for your own server gives you more privacy, room, speed, & flexibility (IE more space for people to attach pics through your site)

ok.

They still are not done with backing up and restoring on the new server.

I did do some checking, the owner of phpbbforfree will not allow the forum posts we have there already to be moved to a new forum on a new host, so if I go to a new host for JCSB, we would be starting over, whether a new paid site or a new free one.

Hopefully the new server will be more reliable!

I hope so. The thread over there about it (in the support forums) is 10-11 pages long, a lot of upset people.

I got tired of waiting for the lack of customer support, so I have essentially started over with a different company for hosting the site.

I will be moving posts over eventually once the old site comes back online. The new site URL is http://p4.forumforfree.com/jeffersoncounty.html

Thanks to Nicky310 for the info on forumforfree.com!

The site is absolutely brand new right now, virtually no content, but give it a few days

phbbforfree.com finally got some of the forums back up today. I viewed the front page of the old JCSB (http://s2.phpbbforfree.com/forums/jeffersoncounty.html) for about a minute, but now it just gives an error (same thing seems to be happening to a lot of other forums). The newest post is dated Nov. 6.

The support forum link from gntbldr (http://www.forfreesupport.com/viewtopic.php?t=2596) is at 24 pages and counting.
