: New rearsets and the road????

I have just fitted the Valtermoto 3.5 rearsets (oh so sexy....pics very soon) and I was just wondering, what do do I do with the rear brake light switch? Should I take it off or should I try and rig something up so it works? And If I do rig something, whats the best way?

Obviously the Rearsets weren't meant for the road hence the questions...

Thanks heaps for any suggestions & Cheers.

Ps. If I dont reply post for a while its because I'm undernourished from the bread and water I'll be living on after I bought these things.......at least my bike gets taken care ofn :)

Can't wait for the pics.

When I put on my vortex rearsets I decided to completely remove the switch since I never really use the rear brake for stopping but I do use it for trailbraking (braking linearly into a turn for added control).

There is a thread in here that shows off a bracket of thin flat stock that was mounted where the heatshield brackets would mount and the rig the member made up was rather slick (cool). Pretty sure it's in a thread titled Vortex in it's title. sorry not enough time at the moment for me to find that for you.

btw, Gratz on the new additions!

I left my switch disconnected for the same reason as gntbldr stated, but there is a switch that you could buy that replaces the banjo bolt on your rear brake master cylinder. It's a banjo bolt with a pressure switch built into it. I can't remember who makes it but maybe one of our other members knows.

Check with Brad @ Superbike Supply. He would know who makes such a switch and I'm sure he has them for a great price. He is our resident parts supplier so you know you will be in good hands. Check the bottom of our site for his forum.

Lockheart phillips has them. Be carefull the one that I got was too long and it broke off and I had to drill and tap it out then buy another one and add a second washer.

You don't need it as your front brake will activate the brake light.

I left the system disconnected, but safety wired/zip tied the bracket to my new rearsets so it wouldn't just flop around or somehow sit against the hot engine

Alright....I thought I was sorted:

I just went to install the pressure switch and I am stuffed if I can figure out what to do with the two wires that come from the banjo bolt. They are both male blade (as in shape) plugs and there seems no provision for plugging them in. I mean its no real biggie, cause I spose I could just cut the existing switch and join the wires together, but It'll get ugly I know.

Any suggestions????

Accessories are never easy.......

that's about all you can do, cut and splice.

since it's a momentary switch I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter which wire gets connected to wich. test it first just to be sure though.

Post a pic of your rearsets and I'll see if my Vortex set-up will work. It cost 79 cents.

clutchslip,
Can you post up a pic of the switch mod? I got some vortex rear sets and wanted to do something with the switch.
