: Tank bag/Back pack for laptop
vt954 04-05-2006, 07:54 PM I'm looking to get a tankbag that will accomodate my laptop (regular size, not 17" or anything). I saw the Icon Urban tank bag that turns into a back pack and I like that idea. It looks like the laptop will fit, but it isn't really designed to hold one. Icon also has a backpack for laptops, but it doesn't double as a tankbag.
Does anyone make a dual tankbag/backpack designed for a laptop? Am I stupid to want one that is both? It just seems like it would be easier to take with you off the bike if it turns into a backpack, and also be better to have it as a tank bag when riding.
Any thoughts?
Truck 04-05-2006, 08:01 PM Ive got a breif case that doubles as a back pack. That seems to work real well.
vt954 04-05-2006, 08:03 PM So you where it as a back pack on the bike, and then use it as a breifcase off the bike?

I like it but @ about 130-140 the aerodynamics moves your head around a little
you cant really get much in there, but plenty of room for a laptop
Flightmedic954 04-06-2006, 12:30 AM I have the icon one your talking about as well
I like it for what it is
but I dont think I will ever put another tank bag on my bike
it scratches the shit out of your tank
& you cant tuck in for anything
It has a holder for your helmet as well
I like the clear map holder on top, too

that's what I also have for 3 years now and it works great, I can put some much stuff into that backpack it's not even funny.
It's a great product.

vt954 04-10-2006, 09:44 PM Thanks for the help guys. I really don't like the look of the hard shell paks, and Medic is right about the tank bags scratching and getting in the way. I need to be able to ride the KTM with the comp too, so I think I will try the Icon backpack. We'll see what happens.
gntbldr 04-10-2006, 11:18 PM I have a backpack that's designed with a laptop in mind I got from my brother who got it from his company for all the IT crew. only thing it doesn't have is the belly strap.
I just got another truck for my klr off of a spin for helping someone out so I don't need the backpack anymore. lemme know if you want to give it a try and save some dough.
Tail bag honey, the HIGH POWERED MAGNETS in the tank bag will wreak havoc on your components. I hav ethe tourmaster tail bag and it fits my laptop and then some jsut fine.
vt954 04-11-2006, 08:41 PM Kat, stop staring at me!
I ordered an Icon Squad backpack today from Brad. Thanks for the offer GNT. I have a backpack for a laptop from my old job, but it didn't have the chest or waist strap and no strap end management. I never felt very secure without the chest and waist straps and the ends of the shoulder straps would flail in the wind and smack me.
Kat, the tail bag would work great on my 954, but not at all on the KTM. I actually have soft side bags for the 954 and want to get a tailbag at some point to do some weekend trips. For now though, it is just back and for to the office.
I'll post up what I think of the Icon bag once I get it.
Thanks for the advice everyone!
vt954 04-22-2006, 02:15 PM Well, the Icon bag showed up. My laptop doesn't fit! Shit. Other than that the bag is pretty cool. Icon cheaped out a little on the zippers - they don't work real smooth. YKK would have been worth a couple extra bucks...
I think the bag would work good if the computer fit in it. I like the way the shoulder straps zip together in front and the back is very padded.
One design thing that is a little wierd is that the laptop goes in from the bottom. I would worry that the zipper could fail and the computer would fall out the bottom. The compartment could also be made to fit a bigger computer easily. The pocket is a few inches shorter than would fit in the bag. It could easily fit my 15" or a 17" laptop then. Oh well.
So I either need to modify the bag, or send it back.
Flightmedic954 04-22-2006, 02:42 PM I lean to-wards sending it back
riding on top of the tank is a rough ride
wouldn't you rather put it on your back
the axio seems to be the ticket for a computer
it shakes your head pretty bad around 130
but hell, you go 130 w/ a tank bag & you'll be wore out trying to hold on
I have both
I don't carry a laptop or I would have been able to give you better advise about the tank bag
but like I said, I dont for-see putting the tank bag on the tank again
I should have sold you the bag
let us know what you do
vt954 04-23-2006, 04:50 PM Medic, it wan't the tank bag backpack. It is the Squad http://www.superbikesupply.com/pictures/26182_icon_squad_backpack.jpg
Just a backpack. I think I probably will send it back. I don't really want to redesign it...
I did find a Targus backpack at bestbuy last night that may work. It doesn't have chest or waist straps, but that would be easy to add. A lot easier than making the sleeve in the Icon bag bigger.
I wish a local shop had the Axio in stock. I would like to try it out. Does it have straps across your chest and waist?
