: Oil capacity?

Before I start to rant and rave what is the oil capacity for a '05 600rr? I can't find the manual right now and I believe it is just over 3 quarts. Is this correct?

Well I decided to change the wife's oil today and damn at first I thought this is easy, one little panel on the right side and the oil filter should come right off. Needless to say some jerk off from the dealership must have put the filter on with an impact wrench. I had to use a tongue and groove plier to get the bitch loose. I tried the tool that goes on the end of the filter that Honda sells but the damn bottom fairing got in the way. So that had to come off. Now I could get enough throw on the plier to break it loose.

Then the filter won't come out because the anti-freeze overflow container is in the way unlike the 954 which is on the left side. I had to remove one bolt and slide the container over for the filter to get by the header and the container. What a pain in the ass! I was cursing like a sailor and wanted to punch the son of a bitch who thought it would be a good idea to put the container right in the way.

I put three quarts of Amsoil synthetic in it and it is just about the right level. Just want to know what the exact oil capacity should be.

3.1 us quarts with new filter

and yes, as like you I learned all that had to happen as it even states so in the manual but like you I thought I could find a way around all that but ,nope.

step
1. take off right mid and entire lower fairing
2. take off the one bolt that holds the coolant reserve tank and hang it out of the way
3. take off filter and remove through the area where the coolant reserve was located
4. oil up the new filter's seal and install new filter ,tighten to 20 ft-lb
5. reinstall the coolant reserve tank
6. drain oil, then retighten drain bolt to 22 ft-lb
7. reinstall fairings
8. fill up oil with 3.1 quarts

Meatstick, I know the 600rr is a bitch my boy had one and we were both scratching our heads. Honda made a mistake with that installation. A trick I learned a while back with a filter that was stuck on my 954 with a torque wrench. Take a long screw driver and a wood hammer. Hammer the screw driver into the filter and hammer that sucker down and before you know it that filter will twist off, just watch for oil leaking out. That is a quick easy way to do it.
