Im starting the track day thing im gonna go about 4 or 5 times a season and i keep hearing that my 954 might be to much to handle on a track.. I ride the shit out of it on the street when i can but i hear the track is alot different. I realize that your need a lot more throttle control on the bigger bikes. Well anyways i keep hearing that newer track riders are way faster on say a sv650 or 600rr then they would be on a 954. And i was told that an average rider on a 954 would get passed alot by an average rider on say a gsxr 600.

Anyways whats your thought on the better track bike a 600 or 954 or something like a sv650....keep in mind that it wont be just a track bike its gonna have to be my street ride too ( cause i just got my wife an 01 ex500)

oooooo... That's a good one.
I will have to wait just like you

for some words of wisdom since all I have is street smarts along with a toot load of what have you.
I have heard that the ex500 makes for a sweet track/street bike. Read that in a bunch of places.
I would choose the 954 so far for it's ergonomics since I have riden the 03 954 and 600 cbr's and am at a 45 normal in jacket with 32" inseam weighing around 170-80 (depending on how much beer I've had over my last downtime...) and I fit the 954 real well while my arthritis and tendonitis were pissed off as hell from the 600's clutch and brake levers positions. I looked to see of adjusting them more down for the way my wrists work well and they would have tapped the plastics upon any tank slapper would have occured...
but then...
I work better with a larger motored bike for all out using what you can as you can but the 600 will let you rtide the piss out of it.

not to babble but... hey, I'm on a roll.. When I sat on the 1000 I felt like the thing was designed around my twisted form and desire and if and when I can get that babae you best believe I want it for a track day or so and whatever else it'll go for...

you just got your wife a ex500??? heck, sell that and she can have the 954 and you can get the 1000!!! ..... lol...
ok ok.. I'll slap myself and try and wake uphttp://www.klr650.net/forum/images/smilies/doh.gif

I still think you would want the extra goose juice for when it is useable and deal with fine control for where you have to... If you feel that you and the bike are all that wholesome together then just weigh out the justin costs for new plastics or what have you... justin costs are costs that you prepare for ...Just in case!... lol

good luck with your outcome. :)

Spend $2000 on a track ready F2 or F3. Still has the Inline 4 power delivery, just less power. They have steel frames and are very crash worthy and spare parts are cheap and easy to come by. I'll take my 954 on the track again. Probably @ Grattan just to try to break 180MPH on the front straight but there is something about circling the track on a bike that you don't care about that makes it more fun.
