Jim, I know you are going to say I should not have done it, but it is time for us to rally and come to your aid, as you have done for so many, myself included.

As some of you know, gntbldr, a member here, is a good friend of mine, and he went down hard back in June on his Dual Purpose bike. He did extensive damage to his hand and had to have a pin placed during emergency surgery, then had to have reconstructive surgery, and regular physical therapy to regain some of the use of it. He was well on the road to full recovery for a while but before he could get cleared to go back to work, he was noticing that the range of motion was still way off and not improving as it should. He has been off work all of this time, and recently his disability payments have dropped to a lower amount as well.

His doctors found that his tendon had grown back onto th bone, and was going to require them to de-glove his hand (pull back the skin) and separate the tendon form the bone where it had attached itself.

Yesterday he went into surgery and after the separation of the tendon, they brought him out of anesthesia to have him move his hand to test the range of motion while it was exposed so they could be sure the tendon was working as necessary. He made a fist a few times and when he tried the final time, the tendon ruptured. They had to take tendon material from a donor site and transplant it onto this one, and then re-attach it. This puts him back at square one. His health insurance is running out, his disability insurance is running out, and he still cannot work.

I would like to ask for any donations possible from you to help us (our local forum) help him. So far locally, we have rasied 450 dollars to assist him. resus called me up I think it was yesterday and told me he had this going on. I was at an auto parts store and I had to go between some isles and crouch down because I started crying.
The while on my way to my doc apt (post surgey) Brad called me up and told me what he knew at that time and it was 1600. I was driving and I started bawling pretty much.
I am seriously crying my eyes out right now as I type.
I can't describe how beautiful this all is.

Went to the doc today and showed him the 80% mobility I worked very hard to get and he was impressed. Impressed enough to let me go back to work on Feb 1st!!!!!!!!!!

I really don't have much strength in my finger but that will come. Doc urged me to be very carefull since the tendon is fragile in 3 spots now. Not just one like it was before it snapped in half on the OR table during my 11-8 surgery.

Going to be real good living my normal blue collared life again!

doc says the tip might start working again if all the scar tissue inside the finger lets loose. no worries though. It bends down just fine I just can't pull it back up is all..
