TSMITH 01-21-2007, 08:59 PM Hi I'm New To This Site.taking Suggestions On My Up Grade .i Read The Forums About The Flapper Fold Down And The Htev Removed Haven't Tried Them Yet.want More Power I Have A Bolt On Akrapovic .thinking About Adding A Full Exhaust,pc And Changing Out The Cams.trying To Get 145 Hp OR BETTER AT THE REAR WHEEL.TRIED OF THOSE GIXXERS RUNNING UP BESIDE ME.PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY OH ITS A HONDA LIKE A HONDA CAN'T RUN WITH THE BIG DOGS
Butter Bean 01-21-2007, 09:09 PM carry a pistol with you, next time he runs up on you shoot out his front tire. that should put him in his place. :lol4:
but seriously, i had a D&D slipon and a PCIII and got 137HP.. a custom map for the PC would probably get you where you want to be.
I did the flapper mod but it only made my FI light come on. I didn't notice that big of a differance so I put it back like it was.
Welcome to the board.
TSMITH 01-21-2007, 09:16 PM Thanks Butter Bean Thinking About Adding A Pc3 First And A Custom Map
C420sailor 01-21-2007, 11:47 PM opening up the engine is dangerous. it'll suck the $ out of your wallet like you wouldn't believe!
a more radical cam has more lift and overlap. the overlap improves cylinder scavenging at high RPM, but results in a decreased dynamic compression ratio, which can hurt low RPM performance (your grunt). to make up for this, you want to bump up your static compression ratio by milling the head, changing pistons, etc. and if you're going to do that you might as well get your heads ported and a valve job.
do the full exhaust, PC3, filters, v-stacks, etc first. if that's not enough for you, you then need to decide if it's worth it to build the engine, or to buy a ballsier bike.
if you've got skillz, you could always turbo it :-)
Stealth 954rr 01-22-2007, 07:00 AM TSMITH, where in Georgia are you from?
Turnerscasa Dallas 01-22-2007, 10:06 AM Welcome, start adding parts, it'll get faster.
Truck 01-22-2007, 10:27 AM Drop a tooth on your front sprocket. You would be surprised at how overgeard the 954 is. You wont hurt on top end either. For 45 bucks its worth the money:thumbsup:
Turnerscasa Dallas 01-22-2007, 10:58 AM Waiting...taps foot...waiting...taps foot...ordered one from Superbike Supply cant wait to try it!
TSMITH 01-22-2007, 11:54 AM Thanks For The Comments I'll Drop A Tooth On The Front And Add A Pc To Get The Ball Rolling
G23954RR 01-22-2007, 11:58 AM Welcome to the board, im a FNG myself!
My bike is up 5 in the rear. Whats the benefit of changing one over the other?
Turnerscasa Dallas 01-22-2007, 12:04 PM Dropping one in front is like going up 2.5 in the rear. Alot of people go down one in the front and up two in the back doing a 520 chain conversion at the same time. We have a 530 chain stock.
gntbldr 01-22-2007, 01:04 PM yeah, -1 in front is a hell of a feeling on a 954. that's for sure.
btw, welcome to the forum T
Turnerscasa Dallas 01-22-2007, 02:03 PM I corrected it..thank you!!!

yeah, what he said.
and welcome to 1000rr.com
Truck 01-22-2007, 09:16 PM If you go up two on the rear then you will hurt the top end. I can do 5th gear power wheelies with that gearing. I like just one down on the front, thats plenty for me (3rd gear power wheelies) however run what you want.
Streetfighter 01-23-2007, 12:54 PM Hey man, welcome to the board.
TSMITH 01-23-2007, 03:27 PM thanks everyone for all the invites. have anybody bought one of the micron serpent exhaust i heard there suppose to work really good on 929 and 954. trying to decide on either a akrapovic or micron full system
olderRR. 01-23-2007, 08:24 PM Both are excellent. I went with Akro but only because I got a better deal.
Perhaps the Gixxies are riding up on you because you're not on a twisty enough road..... 954 can hang with anything on the tight twisties. Although the RC51's will kill us on the really STEEP mountain twisties around here......

Had a micron bolt on and now a akra bolt on. I cant tell much difference between the HP but i can tell you the sound is miles different.
Micron has a low end grunt kinda sound and its not as loud. The akra is like a indy 500 kinda sound.
Both are real good.
cowboy 01-25-2007, 05:17 AM I know dyno's don't all produce the same numbers but my 54 with 15k miles a two brothers bolt on modded airbox and removed the rubber boots and it put down 143. I now have a full micron serpent and a pc3 usb but i havn't ran it yet, still got some more winter projects to finish.
I'm debating doing cams to but the damn springs are so much the cams aren't bad but 700 for valve springs hurts.

it depends on wich pipe i can good a deal on the akrapovic or the micron going to go with one of them and a pc usb air box mod lower front sprocket 1 tooth and see how it runs before i do anything else wish me luck
gntbldr 01-26-2007, 01:34 AM luck has been wished. and I'm sure you'll be happy. contentment comes when you realize you didn't need to spend as much money as you did for the fun you are having. lol
or is that regret. shit man, I dunno...
but never the less. I LOVED all the money I spent on my 9ers even if I wasn't able to use all their power to 75%
TSMITH 01-29-2007, 05:47 PM once you do the flapper mod is it best to run the stock air filter or go with a k&n or a bmc race filter
gntbldr 01-29-2007, 06:07 PM stock is fine. actually flows better than a k&n
cbrjimmy1KRR 01-31-2007, 08:51 AM if you're set on an aftermarket filter, go with BMC, but stock has been shown to be more than adequate.
ducatilife 02-02-2007, 11:01 PM welcome
got yoshimura full system bmc filter and PCIII
an a little bit a racing gas (100) got 144hp
not bad
TSMITH 02-04-2007, 02:47 PM thanks for all the feedback, going to buy a full exhaust (akrapovic) pcusb, and see how she runs. any boby know were i can get a good deal on getting the rims chrome.
