I've got the five year ext. Does it expire 5 years from the day you bought the bike?????? I can't remember. Unfortunately, she's making a seriously bad sounding knock from the trans I think. It's hard to tell but it's a real hard knock and I'm afraid to even ride her to the shop. Any help with the warranty question, or any ideas on the knock would be appreciated. And no. It's definitely NOT the normal Honda knocks or ticks. I've had the bike 5 years and this is a new one and sounds pretty serious.

this may be a few stupid questions but does it have oil in it? and what weight is it? and what's the temp outside?

I'm only asking because when I had that oil filter mishap with my 1st 954 it ended up getting a sharp knlunking noise that came and went... until I took it up to 174 then it went bang and had a rattle rattle thunder clatter boom boom boom

I heard of stories of Honda actually taking care of their customers under waranty even after they had expired.

no clue on the warrenty.
but does the knock of tick get worse or kock faster when you get on the gas???
get out on it and in each gear pull the clutch in and hit the gas and snap the clutch out. don't have to do it hard enough to wheelie it or anything. just a load thrown on it fast and kind of hard
if it's the dogs on the gears it will kick and jerk a few times till it catches. you'll know.
that's the best i know to offer up.
post up what the problem is when you find out though.

Anyway, If I put the bike on the stand, in nuetral, theres no knock. As soon as I put her in gear, there is a serious knock. (yes I know how stupid it is to do this) This makes me think it's in the trans.

BLDR, those aren't stupid questions at all. Oil level is good. Mobil 1 10/40. Filter and everything is good. I go over her with a fine tooth comb cause she's the coolest thing I've ever owned in my life. It's been colder than hell here lately. Hasn't gotten above about 15 degrees for almost four weeks. Taking her out and riding her hard is totally out of the question due to the temps and road conditions. I've been taking her to work and back once in a while just to run her abit.

I think I'll take her to my guy at the shop and let him find out for sure. He's a young kid. A friend of my middle son (how I met him) and he's gone through all the Honda schools. Kid's a sharp mechanic! He's the best, and he puts up with me.

I will post up all the results.

drain the oil. check it for aluminum speckles. cut the oil filter open, check for metal shavings.

is it RPM dependent or speed dependent?

if speed, you might have hosed a countershaft bearing.
