with the tire off the bike get two jackstands and a rod that will go through the hub and rest on both the jack stands to keep the tire off the ground.
spin the tire very slowly so that it'll do about two or 3 revolutions until it comes to a stop.
when it comes to a stop use a pencil and mark the side of the rim directly in the center on the top.
that will be a 'weight' point but only a reference as of yet.
do the spin thing 2 more times ( or as many as you feel comfortable with) to verify that that is a 'true' weight point.
If it is then tap on a small weight ( go with the smallest and work your way up) and do the spin test a few more times to make sure it doesn't sit at the same spot.

if and when the tire is balanced it will not back spin to a resting spot instead it will keep spinning until it comes to a dead stop and if it is balanced the resting spot will be very erradic.

best I can do with words right now....

No problem glad to help, if you are tired of paying the local shop $50 to change a tire building your own tire changer is easy, it's all on here http://www.clarity.net/~adam/tire-changing-doc.html.

It gets the job done at a fraction of the cost. I'm gonna weld one up out of some 1" square tube I have laying around the shop. Nice going pip.
