: Dealer sales me 954 but sticker says 900?
triplexX 02-18-2007, 10:42 PM I just bought an 03 CBR 954rr but on the sticker on the frame it reads 900rr. So all of you out there that has the 54 does your sticker also say 954rr or does it say 900???
If not then the dealer definitley sold me a 900 and tried to pass it off as a 954. I have been on gsxr's up until this point so all the 900ish is new to me.
gntbldr 02-18-2007, 10:49 PM the classification on your paperwork will show it as a cbr900rr but in all actuality it's a 954rr
I had the same question when I bought my first 954
Welcome to the forum.
triplexX 02-18-2007, 10:54 PM Thanx bro! Also when i bought it it already had the D & D pipe and i beleave a k & N but no power commander. It does seem like it is running a lil lean. U think i need to install that asap to keep from fouling out plugs??
gntbldr 02-18-2007, 10:59 PM yer welcome bro. :D
no, no worries about how it's running . but hey, running rich is what fouls the plugs, lean burns them up along with the valves.
I personally would put a stock air filter in it or a BMC but not the BMC race filter.
you don't always need a power commander but they do help Mainly when you get a custom map done up.
but I wouldn't waste the money on either if you've just got a slip-on on it.
let us know what your gas mileage is because average is about 120mi to a tank and you'll know your air fuel should be close enough to goo.
any less and it's kinda runnin rich,
any more and it's kinda runnin lean
Turnerscasa Dallas 02-19-2007, 03:34 AM Welcome!
bladerunner 02-19-2007, 12:01 PM :hide: Hi and welcome from the UK, good choice of bike , got any pics yet??
triplexX 02-19-2007, 01:03 PM Not yet, I will try and get some posted up by the end of this week tho.
TSMITH 02-19-2007, 04:51 PM welcome to the 54 club.
triplexX 02-21-2007, 10:01 AM ok, I noticed today that the bike seemed to have a slight tick to it. Just might be the injectors. Also when it it running you can smell gas real bad from the exhaust and if you hit the throttle hard you can see a little bit of black smoke come out. I am going to take it to get looked at in just a min. Any idea's??? This is the first used bike i have bought and now wishing i would had just bought a new one again, but it only has 3500m on it.
gntbldr 02-21-2007, 10:59 AM the ticking's the injectors like you've mentioned. No worries there.
and yeah, sounds like you're running rich. With 3500 on it it is JUST broken in and loosened up.
again, I'd take out the k&n and put in a stock filter just because...
the only way to adjust your air fuel is with a power commander and the only thing I'd do if I were you going that route is to get it custom mapped if you want it literaly "perfect"
triplexX 02-21-2007, 02:56 PM ok, i just got back. They told me i was just parnoid cuz i bought a used bike. He said he couldnt tell anything was wrong with it. It is still real noisy when you first crank it to mee but oh well. I am about to go pull the airbox and check to see if it has the k&n. If it does i am going to replace it with stock and from then on no worries just add chrome!!!!!
triplexX 02-21-2007, 08:23 PM alright, i checked the filter and it isnt k&n. Seems to be oem filter. After riding the bike more it does seem like the ticking is getting louder. It is even louder the first time you crank the bike up in the morning. Also if you barely hit the gas with it in neutral you hear a clunk. You pull the clutch in and you dont. The mechanic i took it to was on his lunch break when i pulled up and didnt seem to interested in the bike so tomm. i am going to take it to a bigger dealership where i know some of the mechanic and one of them owns a cbr 954. I will let you all know.
triplexX 02-21-2007, 08:25 PM If i get a PC, how do i go about getting it custom mapped ?
Roach954 02-21-2007, 10:50 PM If i get a PC, how do i go about getting it custom mapped ?
Dyno tuned.
gntbldr 02-22-2007, 01:33 AM serious, no worries about the ticking. I had it with both the 954's I had.
triplexX 02-22-2007, 01:10 PM Ok, gas mileage came in today at about 115 when the light came on. I took it to 2 shops and just from listening to it everyone says im good to go. I guess i lost about 5miles worth letting it sit while people listened to it...lol
ducatilife 02-22-2007, 08:22 PM welcom dude
what color is u r 54
triplexX 02-22-2007, 10:41 PM its a very heavy metalic blue. It really stands out during the day but at night it kinda looks like a dark grey or silver.
Turnerscasa Dallas 02-23-2007, 04:09 AM Mine ticks, I can hear it over the stock exhaust.
gorilla 03-04-2007, 04:17 PM the ticking is normal it is the valves thats just the way they seat ...but at 3500 miles it not a probelm... annoying but normal change to full syntheic oil it should help the sound some ( get a good oil dont go cheap)you will get better shifts also. ...THE 900 i on the frame is also normal.... you get 2 954 cuz it is bored out from the factory... just like the ninja zx6 (636) ... the only thing that would worry me about your bike is "THe custom paint" that usually means it has been dropped before..... but you have a good bike there chill out and enjoy it
triplexX 03-04-2007, 09:41 PM It had been dropped but not hard. A few small scuffs on the pipe and on the bar end. All the components and covers on the motor are still factory with no scratches at all. Too much throttle for a first gear wheelie is what he told me.
Streetfighter 03-12-2007, 01:46 PM Hey triple x welcome to the forum. The classification for the 954 is 900RR3 which means it is the third generation of the 900 series. As for the ticking mine does that as well and I have about 16k on it. As for the paint I would also say probably been dropped, I am leary of a bike that has been repainted. As an average you should get around 120 miles to the tank. Sometimes or less depends on how you ride it. Enjoy the bike its a lot of fun.
