why are you wanting to change the gearing in the engine? Have you tried different sprockets and not got the result you want?

I just read a artical that that was a option, and was curious if anyone had done it yet. I have not got the bike yet. I am just researching it before I recieve it, I'm going to get it in jan. I had a 1998 R1 before and droped a tooth in the rear and it made it really a difference. Do you know how the procedure is done?

no I don't know how to change the gears in the transmittion. You may want to download the manual out of the 1000rr section, it would help I'm sure.

sorry I couldn't be more help.

messing with the trany will be a waste of time and $..what are your reasons?
dropping teeth on the rear sprocket will give you more top end if you have the power to pull it that much higher..unless your riding that bike on 6th at red line for more then a few minutes at a time dropping the rear is a waste unless you ride like me :D
